Who says Hayman is in the business of making great fights. What I see he is in the business of managing careers and protecting them as much as possible. With young fighters this is obviously necessary, however he is protecting belt holders champions and then when he can no long protect them he instructs them to abandon the belt. Hayman's book is doing well " how to be a champion without fighting the best"
Haymon sacrafices his less talented fighters to make entertaining fights, and keeps his more talented ones undefeated, while protecting their 0's and make the big money with them
I think what he's doing, and why his fights suck, is that you have to sign on with Haymon to fight one of his fighters. His guys won't fight people from other promotion companies, then he doesn't have to split the profits. He makes two of his own guys square off, like the UFC. But he doesn't have a monopoly on top talent like them. With talent spread around Top Rank, Goldenboy, Main Events, Goosen, King, Sauerland, K2, ******, and a myriad of foreign companies he'll never have all the marbles. You have to cross promote if you want to make big fights happen because nobody has more than one or two top guys per division. A lot of guys used to sign on for one fight, but I think he's locking people into long term multi-fight contracts or else not giving them a shot at his fighters. If you are already with someone you need to leave them or wait until your contract expires and sign with Haymon. This probably has something to do with Schaefer and how he tried to send all the top Goldenboy fighters to Haymon. He seriously hamstrung Oscar with those contracts, letting all the top talent go if Schaefer left the company. Looks like the plan was just to swallow all of Goldenboy's clients and take over with Schaefer running one part of the business and Haymon another.
It's the TV networks that have the money nor Al haymon, I don't know why they are paying top dollar for **** matches.
