Is Cotto still in his prime?

Not prime, looks resurgent under Roach though so he's probably at about 90%. He's currently in a division that he doesn't really belong in so that doesn't help.

His physical prime is on the decline but his mental prime is in full force. He is mentally a great deal better and that's what keeps him at the top.

correction, cotto was drained,no trainer,and stopped recently win fighting pac. get your facts straight buddy. floyd fought a better cotto at the time.

 

nope not in his prime but still has fire and will give any top guy problems around his weight. i believe the hook up with roach (even tho im not a roach fan) does him some good.

Come on. I like watching Pacquiao, Mayweather, Mosley, Cotto, and Margarito about equally but people being unobjective makes me like the actual fighters less just to spite their nuthuggers


1. Margarito had previously lost to Williams.

2. Clottey and Cotto were Margarito's only 2 significant wins.

3. Mosley beat him up.

4. Pacquiao beat him up even worse.

5. Cotto pecked away at him for a damage stoppage by messing up his unhealed eye.

It's a pretty straightforward hierarchy in this case:

Pacquiao > Mosley ≥ Williams > Margarito > Cotto ≥ Clottey

Furthermore:

I don't know ANY other competitive boxer who thinks the handwraps mattered. The intention to cheat is what mattered: trying to gain an advantage outside the rules.

Nobody is scared of JMM because he drinks his own urine. It might make him feel like he has an advantage, but nobody else thinks it does.

I've tested this myself in the gym. You can't feel a difference when a person has a hardened pad in their handwraps. MAYBE it gives them more protection to the hand and more confidence to hit hard, but that's nothing that a better wrapping job won't do. Pro handwrapping jobs are as hard as rocks anyway.

Nope. But, he's got a few good fights left in him, against the right opponents. Canelo is one of them. I think Lara would be another. Floyd and Pac would probably both beat him again. But, those are less risky fights at this point, and would sell. Hell, he may even want to avenge his loss to Trout. Other than his last fight, Trout's looked like Bambi on black ice, of late.

GGG would probably end him though. He really needs to dump that MW belt, asap. I could see him maybe defending it against Kid Chocolate. In terms of risk/reward, that may be the ceiling for Cotto at 160. And I give the K.C. the slight edge in that. But, Cotto, could outbox him.

Right, because you tested it in the gym with 16 ounce gloves on and amateur fighters. Now that is what I call a scientific method (/sarcasm)

In pro ranks, every little bit counts. Cotto's face looked BROKEN, not beaten but broken, as if someone kept hitting him with a bat. Now, granted that Cotto always looks like he got hit by a truck when he loses, but there was something peculiar in that fight. I tend to believe the hardened wraps had something to do with it. Frankly, I don't believe for a second that someone would put their career at risk and put powder on their wraps if they offered no benefit in the fight.
