He probably had close to 80 fights at that point, to Taylor who had only 25 fights. Lockridge was past his best at that point and deep into drugs. None the less, I will give you the 5 you named. I'm not trying to say Chavez wasn't great or didn't have good names on his resume. Though he struggled when it came to fighting other great fighters of the day. Such as Taylor and Sweet Pea. At least half of those 100+ wins are against C or D class fighters. While Floyd on the other hand, maybe only had 25% of his opponents at a C or D class level.

Taylor lost the fight fair and square. He was holding on to the ropes, didn't acknowledge the ref and had poor body language. Any fighter in his position would have been stopped by the ref. Just because it's close to the end of the round doesn't mean you deserve special treatment.

There are no gimmies in boxing. Chavez took what is rightly his...a victory.

 

I get that, but there are other champions with a minimal number of amateur fights and still didn't fight a ton of D level fighters. Tyson had under 20 amateur fights, and he moved up in competition after his first 20 or so pro fights.

Chavez made his way up the ladder through his first 30+ fights.
This was his learning period. He stepped up his opposition past his 30th fight and landed a world title try in his 43rd proffessional fight and from then on he fought high caliber opposition.

You think Chavez should have been fighting A and B level fighters from the get go without any amatuer backround? :nut


Do you think Floyd Mayweather Jr. fought world beaters on his way to the title?
His opposition was about at the same level that Chavez encountered on his way to a title shot, mostly D and at best C level.

Taylor was beating Chavez so Steele should have allowed the time to run out so that Taylor could have won since there was only 5 seconds left? WHAT THE FAULK????!!!!!

It doesn't matter if there was 11 rounds or 1 second left, if Taylor was too knocked out to continue he lost the fight. It's boxing people!

Alot of the time a fighter who takes on all comers and fights often means he's fighting against all types of styles.

Unlike Mayweather, Chavez never cherrypicked a particular style to fight against

This is very true. Mayweather would never fight a fighter like Erislandy Lara, and he would never fight a Tall rangy fighter in his prime like Paul Williams or Antonio Margarito.
