I see what your saying, as good as Derry is he's lost to domestic level guys and beat them as well, Abril is a big step up, be like fighting burns with the wee gloves on, something I'm sure Derry deep down wouldn't have wanted.
Derry is a good puncher at his level he's never proved it beyond domestic level ie M****lli

Derry is a domestic level type guy, at best. I would much rather see Mitchell get another chance.

but he's lost twice and badly, Burns deserves a shot he's been there and done it and most importantly is better than the other two

Did Derry no offer to step in and face Ricky at one point, Billy?
I spoke to Derry on the day of the Burns-Beltran fight and he said he would love a fight with Ricky and I believe him he came across as an a honest guy.

I think his name may have been mentioned in a non title fight after a few call offs for Ricky, but Ricky couldn't motivate himself for Derry, they sparred many times and Ricky always was on top, IMO Derry would have got badly beaten, if he said he wanted the fight it would have been for a decent cheque

Think he is fighting Abril. Hearn said he wouldn't be surprised if it happened. Abril will toy with him.

FFS Billy stop talking rubbish guv..Burns does not deserve anything...he lost to that little Zlaticann fella the other night and it wasn't even if it was close..Ricky was being bossed and you think he deserves a title shot?!

He should retire but that's not going to happen so if he wants to be able to legitamitley get a title shot IMO he has to work his way up like everybody else..Hearn is rightly not going to risk putting the money up to bring Anybody over on his how with the way Ricky has been performing- odviously Eddie wouldn't have a problem sending him over to Haymon or something for one of his cards.

so you think losing to stephen Ormond deserves a shot? Or Kevin being stopped twice? Or an ex champion who has lost 1 from 10 world title fights
You sir are talking ****, yes Ricky hasn't looked good in is last two fights but he still deserves a shot before anyone in UK, bottom line is on form he beats everyone in Uk at present no problem

Abril schools any of our lot. He's in a different league to them.

Hopefully he does get Abril, Moog. Apart from Ricky Burns, Derry has the best record at lightweight at the moment. I think Abril would beat Mathews as he would do Crolla also. Don't forget mate Derry done Crolla once and arguably beat him the second time. Nobody can grudge Derry a title opportunity.

Disagree with this tbh billy , I'd say of all the lightweights who are on the I/national scene the two who would "warrant" title fights are crolla (we already know the score there) and Mitchell.

Never for a second has derry earnt the shot the right way, I was at the Ormond fight & he stunk the place out. But I was also at the Beltran fight and I felt Ricky also stunk the place (yes admittedly when I learnt of the jaw injury I was full of admiration) but fact is neither are In a place to be shouting if they don't secure shots.

Burns will have his day again I'm sure of it - takes a lot to up sticks at his age & accept he's failing in certain ways, but personally I don't feel he's done enough , yet.

Derry is at last chance saloon if he's got a shot naturally he'll try and grab both hands - lesser champions have been made.
