In 99 he was still a newish world champ who had big domestic fights to be made with world rated SMWs R Reid and R Woodhall.
R Reid didnt want to fight Calzaghe when he was a world champ, but he got the fight after.
He even had domestic match ups that could be made with other top SMWs like Starie and Francis.
Consider also how Woodhall and Reid were more accomplished than most of the current top 10 today.
99 there were fights which he got around those times
