Matthew macklin - will he box again?

Following his ko by Heiland, will Macklin retire or box on..does anybody know?

 

I hope so I'd like to see go out on a win and by winning a title of some discription

 

I can't see him retiring tbh, but we will see. Proper fighter though, would rather get knocked out trying to win i.e. against Martinez rather than just losing on points like Mosley v Pac and Haye v Wlad etc.

 

Murray after golovkin fight could happen still big enough to sell that fight domestic

 

In my opinion I think he will retire, had a great career and unfortunately doesn't have what it takes now to achieve his dream

 

I'd say so. That fight with Lee is too much money to walk away from!

 

if lee doesn't fight bjs I can see him taking a voluntary vs macklin, as its big money and lee should win. Will sell a fair few tickets in Ireland that,

still a domestic fight with murray, should he want to continue.

 

He should but if he gets another world title shot against lee in a voluntary he should probably take that then retire

 

Most of Macklins critics point to all the "wars" he had as one of the main reasons for his downfall.
I believe myself that INACTIVITY played a big part in his deterioration over the last few years.
Since fighting Sturm he has simply not been active enough. That was his career best performance and instead of using on from there he has sadly languished in Inactivity much of the time, fighting at most twice per year.

Inactivity is fatal for any boxer IMO.

For me that inactivity Has played a big part in his recent downfall.

I think that Matthew feels he is still a level above Murray. He really isn't and has never been.

I would like to see the Irish Mathew Macklin take on British Andy Lee before he retires.

 

Macklin has, over the past few years since fighting Sturm, been a classic example of the "part-time boxer".

He has held out for the "big" fights ...agsinst the likes of sergio and GGG ...but has failed to maintain his sharpness with frequent "stay - busy " fights that are vital for keeping a boxers skills sharp.

So he has lost " match-fitness" , or "sharpness" as a result.
This was very evident in his last fight against Heiland. He lost sharpness after a few rounds, which ought not to have happened if he was "match-fit" and had kept his skills sharp over the last few years.
