Lee has reportedly been made an offer to make the 1st defense of the vacant WBO title he claimed by knocking out Korobov against previous titlist Peter Quillin, in Brooklyn on April 11th. This would be instead of facing his mandatory, Billy Joe Saunders, with Saunders paid step-aside money of an undisclosed amount.
Could this explain why the Lee v Nielsen fight has gone all quiet? Quillin and Lee - 2 badly flawed boxers but both can hit hard - could be a recipe for an exciting fight....
What would be icing on the cake would be Lee stopping Quillin to retain the title. Than it would prove to be an even dumber decision than vacating and losing a career record payday!
Honestly, Lee has all the momentum here should the fight come off. Quillin has been out for a year and will have rust. Lee hits like a mule with the right hook and Quillin is not hard to find at all. This has disaster written all over it for Quillin.
Lee by KO, Quillin has a shot but I don't think he hits as hard as Jackson, or Chavez, possibly not even as hard as Korobov, and Quillin has been playing it safe since the Rosado match for a reason he got his chin checked and it messed with his head he doesn't have as much confidence as he used to, and the fear of Andy's right will have him fighting cautiously and not taking any risks which could play to Andy's favor.
I agree. Lee has been looking good recently and Quillin just hasn't been active enough. Great fight though.
Great fight! 2 guys that can bang and who aren't exactly defensive wizards. C'mon Andy! Luimneach Abu!
Lee's from the oul' sod and I've been a fan for his whole career. I'm pretty sure he would beat Cotto by KO or points, whichever one he chooses. So I was glad to hear his name mentioned a while back as a 'soft' defence for Cotto for the linear MW honours. But the Chocolate lad is a much more dangerous opponent. ( I've no idea why he didn't defend his title recently and chose to give it up. ) I'll be hoping for Andy but this is at best, a 50-50.
