Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao bout moves closer

    14 January 2015
    Last updated at 23:22

A long-awaited welterweight bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao appears to have edged closer.

Fred Sternburg, Pacquiao's agent, denied reports the Filipino had agreed terms on a 2 May meeting in Las Vegas.

But he told BBC Sport: "There is still a long way to go. At least the movement has been in a positive direction."

Eight-division world champion Pacquiao, 36, and unbeaten American Mayweather, 37, are considered the best fighters of their generation but have never fought.

Filipino Pacquiao is the holder of the WBO belt, while Mayweather is the WBC and WBA champion.

But they have never been able to agree a deal over a bout, with one stumbling block being Mayweather's insistence on a strict blood-testing programme during training.
Pacquiao has said those demands cast him in a bad light as a suspected cheat.

pac should just make a deal on scheduled and not independent random blood tests at the same time with floyd so they are both tested fairly then insist on using 8 oz reyes gloves

If you know anything about drugs and testing it's vital they are that, random! If you know when the test is then even if your on drugs there are many ways to pass, certain drugs to use to clear you system instantly etc... they must be RANDOM not scheduled.

It’s happening. The biggest boxing match in sports entertainment history will broadcast to millions around the world, May 2nd, 2015: Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao.

Though Mayweather has not commented himself, reputable publication theguardian.com confirmed word from Sam Watson. He confirmed that the fight is going down, and that it will be the ultra-rare HBO/Showtime partnership Pay-per-view. If you’ve read my articles in the past, you’ll remember that the HBO/Showtime Boxing Cold War was the primary reason I predicted Mayweather/Pacquiao would never happen. I’m glad I was wrong.

Sam Watson is a man whose name you may not know, but whose face you’ve seen in several post-fight, in-ring photographs. He is a close confidant of Al Haymon, whose name you definitely know, and face you’ve probably never seen.

In short, Floyd Mayweather is boxing… but he probably mastered the business of boxing in no small part due to his relationship and friendship with underground mastermind Al Haymon.

If Sam Watson says Al Haymon says Floyd Mayweather says we’re moving forward with the fight… we’re moving forward with the fight. This is similar and parallel to Bob Arum confirming for Manny Pacquiao, as I reported earlier.

Please, however, do not confuse my explicit words. Floyd Mayweather is his own man, and does not have a manager, but advisers. He’s simply wise enough to surround himself with the most intelligent people in his field, be they Haymon’s or ****** Buffett’s. Haymon managed Floyd early in his career, back in the “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather days of yore.

Now, Mayweather is 37-years-old, 47-0 – and that zero will remain.

Wasn't watson the one who said the fight would never happen before it all went down the way it did years ago?
