The underlined is as farcical as you awarding a draw to Moran against Johnson! Even Jeffries most rabid supposrter Jim Corbett recognized it was a hopeless cause after the 6th rd!

Jeffries had things to his advantage in that ring he had the crowd, Corbett endlessly baiting Johnson and the band playing, "All ****s look alike to me". He even had fans push him back inthe ring when he was punched out of it. Do you seriously think Johnson needed anyadvice how to beat Jeffries? He had been stalking and watching him for 8 years!
    GET REAL!

Total BULL**** Jeffries chief sparring partners were Bob Armstrong who was 36 afew months older than Jeffries and Sam Berger who was 25.
He only sparred with Corbett and Choynski for the cameras.

By the way the reason Jeffries did not want to fight inReno was because he owed book- makers money after he had reneged on bets.
Rickard had to do a deal to settle things.
How can you talk so much about a subject and still be so ill informed about it ? :patsch

He thought the fix was in and didn't actually need to beat Johnson.

There was or is no topnotch fighter ,fighting the likes of a strong and wily
Jack Johnson, who has been OUT of the ring for SIX years as the 35 year old
Jim Jeffries was, losing about 80 or so pounds, and without so much as ONE TUNE_UP fight, and without strenuous top boxing sessions imitating real bouts
that HAD A PRAYER of WINNING...History tells us that. Jack Dempsey for one example was out of the ring for three years, and without one tune-up bout was a shell of himself against Gene Tunney.
The tremendous Ray Robinson at age 34, out of the ring for almost 3 years took a hammering from Ralph Tiger Jones, a man who he would have clobbered in his prime. So history tells us that age and RUSTINESS is not a formula for success, especially when the spirit says YES, but the body says NO...

That is not my impression at all Silver Skull.

While the media and many top fighters thought Jeffries would win, the people in his camp knew that he wasn't operating even close to the level that he should be.

I imagine that he probably knew it too.

Sounds like you all want to read about the training and preparation for this fight. When my next book comes out in the first half of 2015, in the ring with jack johnson part ii the rise, you won't be disappointed, as it will contain daily training reports and predictions for months in advance of the fight.

You can't be that f'n stupid. Armstrong at 36 was old. Corbett was even older. So was Choynski. These were Jeffries sparring partners. DUH.

Sam Berger was DONE with pro boxing by 1906. Hardly an active sparring partner.

Over the years I have corrected you SEVERAL times on this fight. Among them were your statement that Jeffries only won one round. Wrong! You also did not believe that Jeffries old trainer was in Johnson's corner barking out orders. In fact he was.

Please tell me you got kicked in the head by a mule years ago and are no longer capable of learning new things.

There was a farcical tinge to the whole Jeffries comeback.

Before and throughout his training camp there were many whose adoration for the big man distorted reality - I remember doing the same when a shell of Mike Tyson prepared for Lennox Lewis.

Doubt lingered in the Jeffries camp. It wasn't just those regular gripes of feeling the strain but genuinely questioning his position (predicament) as challenger. Corbett likely had too much of a say in proceedings, in sparring, and merely added to this romantic circus.

On the penultimate day Jeffries was still seeking tactical advice from men like Abe Attell.

You think a draw would be a fair result after 10 rounds!
Why would anyone take any notice of you?:patsch

Y'all might as well put this conversation on hold till the above voice of reason (and research) chimes in...

The first Johnson book is coming up in my stack of reading.

That is not what I said. I said IF it were a 10 round match the verdict could have been a draw. Considering the social climate of this fight, and the fact that Jeffries was slightly the better in the first four round, plus won the 9th, and draw is very possible.

I see you want no part of the older sparring partners now that I have corrected you.

Your tactics to switch topics when your wrong still amuse me. Jeffries sparred with OLD men, and a guy who has not been active since 1906 for the 1910 match.
