Want to be clear that @SHOsports and @HBOboxing are still sorting out how they'd produce, promote a @FloydMayweather @MannyPacquiao fight

    Lance Pugmire@latimespugmire
Once they do, then @FloydMayweather, who's more involved in such details than @MannyPacquiao, will weigh in.

    Lance Pugmire@latimespugmire
As the "A" side fighter, he has that right, as much as everybody wants the deal done yesterday...

    Lance Pugmire@latimespugmire
No secret that @FloydMayweather left @HBOboxing with some hard feelings over Larry Merchant interview and other things

The deal was that whichever network's fighter won, that network would get the delay rights. Lewis won and HBO showed the replay, and the fight was forever branded an HBO fight. The Showtime replay that was produced never aired.*

So the deal can be done. It's just not easy.*

Right off the bat, I'm told that HBO is reluctant to handle the delay the same way as in the 2002 deal, preferring instead to have any delay air simultaneously on both networks. Perhaps HBO was OK with the 2002 arrangement because Lewis was such a huge favorite over Tyson and it was worth the risk. In a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, Mayweather will be the favorite.*

I wouldn't say the fight is meaningless but this one should have happened 7/8 years ago. Having said that, I'll probably watch it. One thing is for sure though, this is getting some main stream media coverage. Even casual fight fans are hearing about this, could be ****ing huge!

As a side note, this is eerily reminiscent of how negotiations went down between Hagler and Leonard (with Hagler agreeing to everything).
