this is obviously generally true, but bookies are more open to taking a direction than i used to think(from interviews with them). I think there is a certain amount of caution to be excersized in jumping on stiverne because of the scott fight (and because he is not all that good either).

Did you just compare Wilder to Wlad? lol. Klitschko doesn't have a ****py chin, kind of an insane argument to make at this point. Regardless, Wlad can box and Wilder can't. Wilder throws awkward looping punches and has no defense whatsoever. He just relies on power, basically a Young Shannon Briggs 2.0. Unless his jab improved dramatically since his last fight, I don't see Stiverne having a problem walking him down and catching him with a big shot or counterpunch as Wilder recklessly charges in. It doesn't matter how good or bad his chin is, if Stiverne finds the target he'll get the job done as Wilder is completely untested and has never been in serious trouble before. Wilder has no more than a puncher's chance.

Good chance I will eat a lot of crow and get gang****d on the forum next Saturday, but I'll bite: Wasn't Tyson completely untested and never been in serious trouble before he fought Berbick?

    There I said it

He was clearly more tested and had gone the distance a couple of times. Also he did that in 1½ years time.

    Not really a good comparison

Football, basketball, baseball maybe but they lost their ass in Vegas on boxing and mma the last 3 years in a row. Only few casinos will actually allow you to parlay fights and they limit you as to how much you can bet.

Tyson showed more to his game than just a big right hand.

    My post from another thread
Why do people dislike Wilder? I really don't get it, okay he's hyped up, but is that automatically a reason to dislike a fighter so viciously, he's unproven, we don't know how good he is, but I'm sure we're going to find Saturday and what will everyone say when he beats Stiverne....oh well I guess Stiverne was a bum, a lot of people are setting themselves up to have egg on their face come Saturday night if everything doesn't go as they think it will.

Who the hell has Stiverne beat..... a shot Chris Arreola twice, Chris had a good chin, but as with every HW there seems to come a time when their chin fails them, that may have been the case with the Stiverne fight, we finally saw Chris' chin give way after years of takng a ton of punishment.

Who else, he UD'd Willie Herring who was KO'd in 2 by Dorticos who's a Cruiserweight. Stiverne could NOT KO him

Ray Austin it took Stiverne 10 rounds to stop Ray, when it took Wlad 2, 8 years ago.

Manswell who's been KO 5 other times once by Tor Hamer in 1 and by Wilder in 1.

Ramon Hayes who's been KO 19 times.

Jerry Butler who's been KO 4 times.

He got a MD win over Charles Davis who'd been KO'd 6 times, once by Seth Mitchell in 2. Stiverne could NOT KO him

He could only UD Robert Hawkins who's been KO 4 times and lost 23. Stiverne could NOT KO him.

Stiverne has also beat nothing but BUMS, except for Arreola, but wait Chris is kind of a bum as well.

at 888sports its a 4-1 odds if you bet the fight goes less than 2.5....not bad considering the fighters we are dealing with

stiverne is also 2.5-1 and wilder 1.5-1

i put 350$ on stiverne and 50$ it goes less than 2.5 rounds....i think its a good bet, good odds i would say

Maybe because he beats up on women? :yep Nah I joke.

Nah really it's just a classic case of a boxer where every single fight hes ever been in, is expected to win. He's never the underdog, hasnt been challenged and hasn't ever been tested. Yet he's screaming from the mountain top that he's the best ever, even though he hasn't fought anyone. Of course thats gonna get him some hate.

Win or lose if he comes through a hard fight this weekend though, people's estimation of him will improve. He's gotta prove his heart first before people will like him. No one likes cheering for a guy that always had it easy.

Also the bomb squad/ bronze bomber stuff is rather puerile imo

No comparison is ever perfect but I think this one is pretty good. Tyson had no amazing amateur credentials, neither has Wilder. Tyson was doubted by many, hyped by some. Like Wilder. Largely untested and unknown Tyson went in as a 3-1 favorite to beat reigning belt holder Berbick. Sound familiar?

I think the similarities are striking. You're letting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindsight_bias getting the best of you here, Robney. With the benefit of hindsight, you now know what became of Tyson after Berbick and you act as if it was all predictable before he beat Berbick. It wasn't. Before Berbick nobody had Tyson on their radar screen for anything big.

Fight under 4.5 rounds 2.20 and Stiverne By KO 1-3 rounds 9.00. There's good value in these odds. This fight isn't going to go past 6 rounds and what later it goes the better for Stiverne. But I predict Stiverne TKO win inside 3 rounds.

    I picked Wilder to win.

If I remember correctly Stiverne has been KOed 1 time more than Wilder by a less-than-stellar opponent.

Stiverne's main claim to fame is two wins vs Arreola.

Wilder beat the dessicated corpse of Lyakohovich and the enigmatic Malik Scott ( possibly impressive assuming it wasn't an out and out dive---which is possible ).

What I expect BIG PUNCHES with the loser laying flat on his back. What I don't expect, a subtle display of patient safety first pugilistic skills. It's most likely going to be short and violent. Although, I haven't made an in-depth study of either combatant, I think Wilder has the better two-handed skills which will make the difference.

This just isn't true. I was a boxing fan at the time, and Tyson was on the cover of all the magazines, certainly expected to be the "next big thing." And expected to blow away Berbick, which he predictable did.

Comparing Wilder to Tyson is absurd, to say the least. Tyson had fought better competition in a YEAR than Wilder has in SIX. He'd faced several tough journeymen/fringe contender types like Mitch Green, James Tillis, Jesse Ferguson, among others. Wilder has yet to fight an opponent like this. Stiverne will be his first live body in SIX YEARS as pro. By the time Tyson had been a pro for six years he had already lost the title to Buster Douglas!!!!!!:patsch

Wilder might have been in a fixed fight vs Scott! There are rumors that this title match could be fixed. As such Wilder is a favorite on the books.

I expect Stiverne to take Wilder out early.
