Both Boxing and MMA can treat insomnia and then you have fights that you don't want to blink and watching with excitement. So you point about MMA boring makes no sense

I follow both sports closely and have ton of respect to both sports, it is very silly not to see and appreciate how complex MMA is

Too gruesome without rules. It's pure violence

You clearly have not tried both.

I love boxing and grew up on it but the majority of the sport is one's willingness to get hit over and over and over (and over) without taking a knee until your opponent makes a mistake and gives you a scoring window. Even the "elusive slickers" like Floyd start to look clearly braindamaged by late career.

For this reason boxers are probably some of the physically toughest people anywhere, but the "tactical factor" not at the same level as MMA.

There is so much more going on in an MMA fight. Strategy plays a much bigger roll. The ability to win a fight via positioning, striking or submission creates a much deeper game of rock-paper-scissors than the rather blurry styles of boxer, boxer-puncher, swarmer, etc.

As for why I personally like watching boxing more than MMA, easy to answer:

    1. At my gym which is a mix of both, I usually have more fun boxing. I just don't like ground sparring. I learned enough of it to use in a fight but I don't want to have a guy's balls on my neck 5 times a week.

    2. When PrideFC went under, UFC took over. UFC's production style caters to stoned, boardshorts-wearing, ultra-liberal, college sophomore "bros" into "Exxxxtrreeeemm Sportzzz" and rapmetal. I didn't stop watching the fights but I definitely can't be around the type of oblivious "Bruce Lee would PWN Mike Tyson, BROOO" ******s one encounters on Sherdog.net.

On the other hand boxing is not perfect. Like I said there is less strategy and more of a willingness to endure head trauma. It's corrupt as hell, you can never be sure a fight isn't fixed (especially during the Don King & mob rule years), you would never have stuff like the race riot that broke out at Maskaev-Rahman happen in the UFC.

Right now what I like the most is GLORY kickboxing, the spiritual successor of K-1. It's a nice middle ground. Skilled fighters, good production, minimal gimmicks.

I agree. I enjoy watching some of the MMA fights, and I respect the skills that MMA fighters have. But I find a lot of MMA fans to be arrogant, wannabe macho men. And a lot of the fighters as well. But the teenage and/or early 20-something MMA fans are the worst: arrogant, ****y, posturing like pea****s; wearing their Tapout or Affliction shirts that are 2 sizes too small, with all the requisite tattoos and of course the Affliction or Tapout stickers plastered all over their raised pick-up trucks. LOL

Because it's boring. When they stand up and throw punches, it can be entertaining, but when they are rolling around on the ground, it's frightfully dull.

I enjoy watching both sports and rarely find either boring. Boxing can be both boring and extremely exciting depending on the participants skill level and whether or not their styles match, same thing with MMA.

I use to be huge Fedor fan when he was fighting and the first MMA fight I ever saw was with Frank Shamrock.

First boxing match I saw was Ali - Foreman.

    Damn I'm getting old.

That may be, and I am sure it takes skill, but it doesn't change the fact that it is BORING to watch a couple of guys roll around on the ground. :deal

In boxing, guys are moving around, throwing punches, etc. That happens in MMA - and when it does it can be entertaining - but when it hits the ground, it's snooze time! :nod

I can't agree with this. Go watch Mccallum vs Toney and tell me if that's 'deeper' then Griffith vs Bonnar.

Mma takes every opportunity it gets to bash boxing. That why I respect Jorge Masvidal for listing himself as a boxer. No wonder he's been robbed Atleast 4 x.

Some hate MMA because they see the sport as a competitor, even if they don't admit to it. Some also hold the view that grappling (wrestling) isn't a manly means of fighting and thus equate MMA as ****erotic.

Race may also play a role as there are a lot of white fighters in the upper ranks of MMA. I think it was Bob Arum who ignorantly labeled UFC fighters as "skinheads."

Any sport that a ****ing WWF wrestler can waltz into and take a title is a joke.

If he tried to pull that in boxing he would still be in a coma.

How's Machida doing these days. I can honestly say that's pretty much all I've ever liked about mma. He had a great stick and move style.
