Here follows my take on tonight’s heavyweight fight.

Wilder has the advantage in height, reach, and punching power. But more importantly, he controls distance much better with his jab and his footwork. However, his chin might be suspect. And he lacks experience. We simply do not know about his stamina and how he reacts when taken into deep waters.

Stiverne is a good puncher, and he punches extremely fast. Moreover, his defense is good: He bobs and weaves well; he slips, ducks and blocks punches well. However, he is slow on his feet, and has trouble getting in range to throw his punches. And more importantly, his punch output is most often low. What spells trouble for him, though, is that he fights badly when he gets tagged: He does not hold or tries to bide time. He simply fights fire with fire.

I see a fight where Stiverne absorbs way too many punches in the early going. This is mainly for two reasons: 1) He has trouble with controlling distance and getting set to throw his punches. This will be apparent in this fight with such a tall opponent. 2) This is his natural tactics: to let his opponent wear out his strength and aggression, and then take over. Stiverne looks, ****yses, and tries to find wholes in his opponent’s game in the second half of the fight. This will not serve him well in this fight.

I see Wilder taking control early with rapid jabs and good footwork. He will tee off on Stiverne when he chooses to do so. However, contrary to many of Stiverne’s other fights, I don’t see him changing the tide in this one. Wilder will stay in control, punishing Stiverne with too many punches.

Stiverne, unable to find his range, unable to tie Wilder up when hurt, and throwing too few punches, will likely get knocked out.

However, if Stiverne does land a couple of his hooks (but I don’t think he will): Bye, bye Wilder!

    Just my 2c.
