Dang, was hoping for a bit more from the fight tonight but all in all I don't think it was too bad from Wilders perspective, lots of questions answered at least partially tonight. I figured it would go to a decision but I just couldn't pick Wilder when there were too many question marks over him.... but tonight he showed his chin is at least not bad, took some good shots, that he wont completely fall apart when getting walked down late in a fight, and that his power is not a mirage and also has some staying power (hurt Stiverene later into the fight) and that hes not a completely stupid fighter either. Hes got a lot of improving to do, and I really really hope that he has the intelligence and determination to want to continue to learn, improve, and stay dedicated and disciplined. He seems kinda wild. But if he has all of that, and can use these step ups in class to continue to get better.... he will be a decent fighter. If Jennings is his next fight though, that might be his first loss. He showed a lot tonight, but Jennings is another level, imo. But you know what, Wilder does make things more exciting and Im happy hes in the division. Stiverne.... stiverne stiverne stiverne. Plodding forward head hunting, when you are the slower, shorter, less reach, guy.... and on top of that not even cutting off the ring or throwing a jab. Wilder got in Stivernes head (I assume, what else explains his stupidity) and had him completely looking for a one punch knockout. He completely wasted putting in body work. You are a power puncher with a guy who has a small, 219lb frame in front of you, as open as can be, and you are not breaking him down to the body? Are you serious? You are walking forward without a jab? You aren't cutting off the ring? Either Stiverne is much, much worse then I thought he was (not that I rate him that highly) or he was overlooking Wilder bigtime, not doing the basics and instead thinking he could get Wilder out if he could just land a good shot. Which obviously, he couldn't. Its frustrating to me seeing fighters who should so obviously be doing something, but aren't (its why I like watching mayweather and ward fight, they almost always do exactly what they should, though may is slipping) Anyways, its not Wilders fault Stiverne fought stupid.... so congrats to him. He will make for some exciting matchups in the future. Wont even talk about LSC, Im sick of seeing him in fights I don't care about.
