wow, stiverne needs to learn to average more than 1 significant punch per minute

dude was completely inactive for large portions of the fight. he had some success in rounds 4, 5 and 8, but didn't bother following up on a retreating wilder. other than that he was just a slowly plodding target.

it reminded me a lot of the chisora vs fury fight, except chisora was substantially more ****.

wilder clearly won the fight but he is nothing special. Wlad would knock him and stiverne out in the same night.

i guess the only purpose this fight served for the higher ups is to bring a heavyweight title back to america to try and re-ignite some interest.

I have to agree. I really don't mean to discredit Wilder but it is so hard not to. I see it more as a bad performance and execution by Stiverne than good boxing by Wilder.

Stiverne did under perform. I think he thought he could just sit back wait for Wilder to make a mistake and then smack him into another plane of existence.

His jab was nonexistent in the early rounds, but once he started throwing to the chest he was able to make Wilder take an extra step back and then work him on the ropes but he had given away 3 rounds already when he begun to do this and he didn't even start going for the body until the 11th and he did have success when he went down stairs but by then he was tired and pretty beat up.

I don't think he would have won either way, but he would have been more competitive.

He needs a better trainer. He completely succumbed to Wilder's distance tactic. Tyson would slightly kneel, take a punch, and explode with a hook whenever an opponent used this tactic, he would also keep the opponent close to the ropes as much as possible. That's how you beat a long opponent, not by hoping he will make a foolish mistake.

Yes, people are going wild about Wilder's "boxing skill" but in truth Stiverne made him look like a boxing master, he offered nothing.

    Stiverne is NO Tyson.

He fought to the best of his ability, but simply does NOT know how to effectively cut off the ring with his jab.

If you watch the first Arreola fight and the Austin fights, you see Stiverne fighting with his own jab off the backfoot for most of the fight and lured them in and nailed them with hard couters completely changing the dynamic of the fight.

Had he done so vs Wilder......he'd likely been stopped before the 3rd rd.
It was smart moving forward, but he was completely underprepared for a poised and composed Wilder.:-(

Then again.....I think the entire PLANET was as well.:thumbsup

Does This man have no footwork?

I mean I can't believe he didn't get KO'd he was barely mobile. Maybe he wanted that fight to be a testament to his chin.

It's how Stiverne fights. He was thoroughly outboxed by Ray Austin of all people before landing a ko shot, Arreola was outboxing him as well, and then there was the King fight.

He's a counter puncher who doesn't know how to counter punch. In the Austin fight he averaged something like 10 punches a round, and his counter punching consisted of taking 5-6 punches, and then trying to return with a 1 or 2 punch combination. Not good man.

Yeah, Stiverne was horrible. God damn I didn't realize he has the footwork and activity of a tortoise.

Or that he would just slowly plod forward for 12 rounds, not using the jab or any head movement, and wouldn't let his hands go. It was a very bad performance from 1-12. He planned on counter punching, there was absolutely no plan B.

I know everyone has off nights, but it's still worth noting that was a completely shot Austin. Ray from 4-6 years earlier probably wins that fight.

I agree. What does that say about Stiverne?
