Anyone not drinking the Wilder kool aid already knew this, but it's more clear now than ever After fighting Stiverne, now we know Wilder's power is overrated His KO streak ended as soon as he stepped up the competition. not a coincidence random nobody Demetrice King had more success at hurting Stiverne than Wilder did, Wilder threw the kitchen sink at the fat midget yesterday, yet couldn't stop him Wilder is a hard puncher yes, but not the humongous power puncher he was hyped to be So no way he has the power to KO his opponent with a half assed slap / set up punch, like he supposedly did against Scott :verysad
I think Scott took a dive too, but that's because Scott was scared. Wilder would have knocked him out if Scott came to fight.
yeah, we'll never know if Scott was paid to take that blatant dive or was just looking for a way out either way, its another black eye for the sport
Wilder hurt his hand on Bermane massive noggin, that's how hard his head is, some guys just have great chins.
I actually think more of Wilders power now then I did before the fight. I didn't take much away from any of his other fights but busting up stiverne and wobbling him like he did shows hes got good power.
Indeed. Same thing for Hearns/Hagler We all know how hard Hearns hits. But once his fist met Hagler's noggin, it broke. Wilder hurt his hands badly in the 4th/5th round (He confirmed it) and that's why he wasn't throwing it that much in the later rounds. Hagler's head is like a football helmet, you aren't going to break it, not even close. The dude's jaw is pure granite. Still, Wilder hurt Stiverne multiple times in the fight and managed to knock him down (Although it did not count). Stiverne stumbled backwards trying to get up cuz he lost his legs temporarily.
Agreed. I see some people are down on his power, and I really don't get it. His power is legit, his IQ is a bit better than I thought, he has tremendous athleticism, the chin seems better than advertised, and what impressed me most was his ability to pace himself efficiently. He needs to vastly improve his balance, though.
Midget is a bit stretching it, but in today's HW division it's at least kinda small. There were times when that was a massive HW, but those are long past us now.
Anyone with a pair of fully working eyes and a fully operational brain knew Scott dived even before the Stiverne fight. He either was paid to dive to make Wilder look good and get him in a position for a title shot or he knew he had no chance and took the easy way out which is just as bad. The punch he went down from was a nothing punch, and arm punch as well that was half blocked, he was fully aware when going down, using his arm to cushion his fall and his eyes were fixed and focused on the ref, he had full cognitive ability. As for Wilder's power, it clearly isn't at the level it seemed to be when he was knocking out journeymen and shot contenders but he clearly can crack. He would have gotten a knockdown in the 2nd round had he not squared up and allowed himself to be dragged down. But he can clearly punch hard, but I don't think he hits as hard as Wlad or even Povetkin or Stiverne but he has enough power to hurt anyone if he connects cleanly.
