He's part of the biggest MMA promotion in the world, which markets and promotes its fighters very well, he's entertaining both in and out of the octagon and has the Irish connection in the states to. Not that hard to understand.
Indeed. I was going to mention him, but my main "theme" was the amount of attention we dumb Irish are giving to mcgroeger and his stupid behaviour and his stupid " sport ". Regarding Carl, as I've said in the past, Carl has totally failed to market himself down here, so any lack of recognition etc is on him, I'm afraid. (In stark contrast to the relatively talentless, childish boor CmcG ..in a way Carl could learn a thing or two from him, much as it sickens me to say it!)
How an Irish WSB team would look http://www.irish-boxing.com/irish-wsb-team-shape/ Now all we need is some rich boxing obsessed businessman to pump a couple of million into it to get it up and running.
Meh, Id rather just see them turn pro. Like real pro....or whatever its called. Im a bit confused these days as to whats pro and whats...olympic styled pro... What these elite guys are doing is not "amateur" boxing. They're not even pretending anymore with the APB
Im aware, but some people still refer to that stuff as "amateur" boxing, which it blatantly isnt. Even the WSB is essentially professional. I dont ever see it really challenging the traditional pro structure, but at least it puts guys on the stage more for when they switch to traditional pro boxing.
Why sport in inverted commas ? Its the fight game, I prefer boxing but enjoy watching the Irish lads do it on the world stage in the UFC, nothing worse then begrudgers.
I dont think it is a sport, thats why. Fair enough if you like it. I used to watch K1 for a while a few years ago. Not everyone who doesnt like what you like is a begrudger. :blood I think its a dreadful spectacle - Im just a boxing fan only. I mean where do you draw the line? :bbb
The lines between amateur boxing are being blurred now, and if Ireland never gets a WSB team we are in danger of falling behind the rest of the world in the amateurs which will end up having a determinable effect on the pros. Paddy Barnes said this himself and I agree with hi.
It's a combat sport with a lot of martial arts disciplines in it. The fighters are skilled, work hard, show plenty of heart and many come to it already accomplished in many other codes of combat sports. It is a sport, whether you like it or not.
This content is protected Thats a bit much BJ. To me It crosses the line. The line between 'sporting competition' and 'thuggery'. Its on the wrong side of that line, IMO. Where do you draw the line? How much violence is too much? What next - would you have 2 homeless guys slug it out on camera for the last bed in the homeless shelter? They're adults after all, right? Probably you wouldnt, I know, so I'm guessing you have a line you dont cross too. My line is just a bit further on the side of good taste than yours....... Just cos there is a lot of 'skill' invoved doesnt make something a sport IMO. Trying to confer a veneer of respectability on such thuggery by using glib phrases like: 'It's a combat sport with a lot of martial arts disciplines in it.' is just phoney BS and well you know it BJ. Beside most boxing fans dont like it anyway. :bbb
Thuggery haha you sound like that eejit from the Seanad, get a grip will ye, its a sport as much as boxing is, and its not going away. A lot of Irish boxers tweeted there support for McGregor and the lads last night including Katie Taylor, Carl Frampton etc, Len you are getting worse by the day with your statements.
Dont know who you mean in the Seanad or wtf Gerry Callan is, but theyre right. Where do you draw the line? Torturing animals for fun? How about 2 children fighting for the last place in the primary school class? Or the 2 homeless guys I mentioned earlier? When is enough enough? Stick to boxing.
