Anytime the great man is taken ill,he's always going to be "close to death" in some quarters.

Recent news has been very worrying but Ali keeps coming back. He still has a lot of fight in him.

The report I saw said Urinary tract infection. That doesn't sound like near death. I hope he recovers.

It is a serious condition in older people, but recovery tends to be complete.

My dad struggles with it.Ever since his bladder was removed he's vulnerable to them.Nearly lost him a few years back when they didn't know what it was. All about antibiotics, but they say that won't last forever.Eventually it will become immune to them.;((

I toasted his good health last night in the pub.some of the lads in their 20's who only know of mayweather, pacquiao and khan knew nothing about Ali.
    How can that be ????

I gad a debate with some idiot on the British Forum who turned around and told me 'Thank God i wasnt around for the boring Lennox Lewis era'.

Thats when i realised, he must be about 11 years old.

They must be the same guys who question who that old dude Paul McCartney is and wonder why Kanye West is recording with him.

About ten years ago, when I was teaching in the university, some of my African-American students didn't know who Ali was. And they weren't putting me on. I couldn't believe it. Apparently fame is fleeting!

He's got a lot of fight in him, as proven by the fact that he's outlasted most of his peers despite his condition.
He has an incredible fighting will, he's always been a marvel. He never gave up.

I do wonder why so many other people have such a vested interest in him living though. I can't say for sure, but if my own father was in a similar state for so long I'd probably be relieved to see him pass, in all honesty.

I don't mean to be an ass or put a dampener on things but I wonder how the public would have taken Ali if he was able to state his views on Islamic terrorism after the 9/11 bombings and recent tragedies??

A man so well known and loved could have had a massive influence on political events and these people if he'd had the ability to speak out loud.

I don't think he would be able to influence mindless ,murdering thugs who kill innocent civilians indiscriminately.
The only thing that will influence them is a drone strike.

Ali converted from radical Islam ( USA version ) to a moderate version.

Would he critic his own religion's Jihad? Unknown. Its a catch 22 for him, so ironically enough its best that he stays silent on the topic.

Ali is pretty much retired from public appearances. I do not think he has much time left.
