Excellent post. I hope it's not true for boxing and Mayweather ' s legacy sake.

Thanks for the compliments. I just love this sport and want to see it return to being the sport that captures the imagination and excitement of the people that it once was. And to do this, the best must fight the best. Forget the politics. Easier said than done!

This would be terrible for Mayweather's legacy.

would Floyd still shoulder the blame IF it does break down, showtime and hbo comes and says they couldn't come to an agreement?

In my book - not necessarily, no. I wouldn't blame him if the situation was untenable.
However, that's purely hypothetical. Right now the talk is that one side has made numerous concessions and that the other side is still looking elsewhere to re-tread old grounds with an easier fight. So that is where the criticism in this thread has arisen from.

oh of course. We're only talking in hypothetical since nothing concrete has come out from hbo/showtime just yet. Just throwing that scenario out there simply because I don't think HBO/Showtime execs would do lunch/dinner meetings if FLoyd/Pac weren't squared away on their end.

Superbowl is the deadline I guess lol. That's when people (on here) are thinking it will be announced...if indeed there is anything to announce.

    I don't think so.

What is supportable about the match up are on-paper sort of achievements and notes. Not remotely the appeal of an extreme match up itself.

I wonder if we would also expect people to dismiss previous sentiments about Cotto too...

If Quillin or Golovkin or Lemieux or Lara or Khan beat Cotto at a 155 catchweight fight this May, you'd be praising them for getting the best victory of their career!!

I have got to admit that I should boycott the Mayweather and cotto fight as it's a disgrace that Floyd wouldn't be fighting Pacquiao, but I can not lie, i'll still watch the fight. I'm a big fan of Mayweather's boxing ability, but it#s pretty obvious thatt Floyd is not too keen in boxing Pacquiao. Excuse after Excuse.

    Two points:

Very disappointing if this happens instead of the Pacquiao fight. Mayweather will lose fans.

Cotto will beat Mayweather at middleweight. Also, expect this fight to be at a catchweight.
