This would be a quality fight, superb. Both giants, Thompson slicker, Baer the puncher and the more aggressive. Both lost to the top ranked guys they met, both bulldozed the weaker guys they met.

    Who you got?

This is a very good fight I think. Baer is the power puncher of the two while Thompson just might be the slightly better boxer. Tony impressed me with an outstanding workrate against Odlanier Solis while being over 40 and managing to throw over 1,000 punches in that match. Buddy hit like a truck. I'm not sure who I'd pick but I think Thompson has a chance of outlasting Baer and possibly taking a win on points.

Buddy Baer was a big man and a pretty talented guy. I think most of the guys Thompson beat Buddy could beat and the guys Tony lost to Buddy would lose to, also Joe Louis would chop Tony down and look great doing it. I think Baer has the power and Tony brings some ruggedness and southpaw trickiness- Toss-Up

He did face a switch hitter in Jack Roper, for whatever that is worth.

    Possibly not very much.

back then there were few southpaws, the converted lefty's at birth, there were a few excellent ones but few at the top of the heavyweights. You have to train or a southpaw different than conventional but an adjustment in training would have had Joe prepared.

Tough to say how fast Joe could acclimate given how few good southpaws were there to spar against. Waiting until fight night to face a world class southpaw that has been fighting orthodox guys his whole career can lead to some wonky results.

Even today, southpaws are less desirable opponents and plenty of very good heavyweights are content not to cross paths with them more than necessary.

Thompson a little underrated as a contender. IMO he would fit in at any point as a contender, in heavyweight history, with varying results, but I'd make him a slight if not solid favorite to edge Big Baer......maybe even stop him late. Thompson has the edge in fluidity, roughshod as he may sometimes seem.
