That would be a good fight on regular HBO Mandingo said he had a special ass whipping saved for canelo. Let's see if it's true
Hard call, either early KO by Canelo or Mandingo might maul him, but I think Canelo may be good enough blunt his aggression a little and win a UD.
154lb, obviously. Nothing at stake (neither currently has a title; Kirkland is >1yr inactive) but obviously a W for either is of appreciable value.
Six months between mid-level fights does not a superstar make. If he wants to be Oscar, let him be Oscar.
So here's a question... I strongly favor Alvarez, but should this end up being a chaotic messy blitzkrieg in which Canelo gets sparked out by a stray bomb in an exchange (and this is Kirkland's best chance, IMO - flipping the Ishida script) ...does Cotto vs. Kirkland for the lineal MW belt suddenly become acceptable? If not, that creates some awkward questions that need answering. Nobody really considered Alvarez challenging for the lineal MW title inappropriate. It may not seem like Kirkland is one (junior middleweight) victory away from his challenging for the lineal middleweight title being acceptable - but Canelo (whose career high is 155, and he only exceeded the super welter limit that once) going for it, everybody was all set to be okay with. :blood Fair is fair. Good for the goose is good for the gander. If the stock of Canelo is currently high enough that he can acceptably move up and challenge for the lineal middleweight title, surely Kirkland (who unlike Alvarez has fought not only at middleweight proper but at super middleweight), with a KO1 victory over Alvarez ought to inherit that same due consideration and be allowed to do the same? :think
