Yes but Kirkland vs. Rosado (as was supposed to happen a few months ago) would have been even better.
People always dismissing Kirkland . The man is a beast and remorseless with punching power in both hands . I will be rooting for Canelo , but for anyone to say this is an easy fight or a guaranteed W for Canelo is absurd . James has an unbelievable will to win . Intriguing Matchup .
My main concern is.... Kirkland has fought what, once a year for the last three years? Maybe less? Hes a guy imo that relies on activity, getting in a groove, 'building upon the last camp' type guy (meaning he uses the shape he was in a few months earlier to help him get to a higher level the next camp) I think maybe James's time has come and gone, and I wouldn't expect to see the destroyer we know as Kirkland. Though he looked decent against Tapia :think Also, I believe this might be Canelos longest layoff in his career.... but he doesn't rely on the same set of attributes James does, attributes that imo benefit from activity.
This has the potential to blow up in Canelo's face, Kirkland if unaffected by Canelo's power and if he gets in his groove may end up stopping him, although I think Canelo wins, how much credit will he get if he does, because his detractors will just say he beat a glass jawed loser. This is very high risk low reward for Alvarez, but damn good fight nonetheless.
Kirkland is not a beast. He is a mentally fragile Glass Jawed fighter. People tried to perpetuate him as some Mandingo destroyer then he was KOed by a feather fisted Japanese guy and even before that he had problems staying vertical in fights (and has since) Kirkland has dog in him. He is not a real Prizefighter. You are trying to make Kirkland out to be something he is not. Canelo will stop him early.
Yeah, probably not ideal conditions for Kirkland, but such is the nature of this kind of "now or never" opportunity. This is already his 2nd or 3rd chance (Kirkland pulled out in summer 2012 when scheduled to meet Canelo, and there were some talks last summer as well but they didn't progress very far) so he isn't really in a position to decline or ask for a tuneup. Canelo wants a decent consolation prize for May and right now Kirkland in San Antonio is looking good to him. The opportunity might not come again.
