My original post was in answer to IB who was asking what is the point of SBW fighting Welliver.
I believe he will fight Welliver and the proceeds will go to charity as has happened in his prior fights.
I believe he never took the am route in boxing because he was focused on Rugby League since he was 13.
Playing for the team that offers the most money is the option that most players take when it is offered.
If money is his main aim in boxing then why donate your purse to charities.
Did any other B celebs donate more to the Aukland Appeal than SBW.
As for my Support, I think he is a very average fighter as his list of opponents confirms but i don't hate the guy if he wants to jump in the ring and give some money to charity.
No one holds a gun to their head and forces people to pay for PPV.
I can't comment on SBW destroying boxing in NZ. I thought Parker was going OK.

In 2012 Geale beat Sturm in Germany and unified the IBF/WBA titles. JMM scored a stunning KO victory over Pac most people I know were more interested in a Rugby Union v Rugby Union fight night where Paul Gallen beat a All Black. SBW appeals to a audience not familiar with boxing but like the hoopla he brings to an event. The point is $$$ and as Zoley pointed out he makes a lot of money for charity.
So while I have never paid for a SBW fight or even bothered watching replays bar 1 or 2 a lot of people do. So he caters to a market who are not hardcore boxing fans but still like a fight. One guy on this site even started a thread here ''Will SBW V Botha be on at pubs and clubs?'' and this is a boxing website. If he can make a few $$$ on the side and make some money for charity good luck to him.

 

Your probably right, those charities that acknowledged those donations must have been scared to say otherwise, maybe he threatened them or something.

 

What about if Parker and Browne, two fighters who are considered to be future contenders, fight each other instead of calling out a bloke who is not even rated and has clearly stated he has no intention of being a contender at any stage.

 

This forum is so so fortunate to have a full roster of FAB 4 greats on here most days to inform the boxing fans of what is what in the world of boxing.:good
