Many figured once the Golden Boy contracts with the remaining Haymon fighters expired they would not be re-signed as part of the housecleaning, including Matthysse, junior featherweight titlist Leo Santa Cruz and welterweight contender Amir Khan.

However, De La Hoya pulled a surprise by re-signing Matthysse. He said he made the deal with Mario Arano, Matthysse's manager and promoter in Matthysse's native Argentina rather than Haymon.

"Mario Arano is his manager and we did a deal with his manager," De La Hoya said. "Al Haymon is an adviser to Mario and Lucas. We went directly to his manager and his manager and Lucas are loyal to us. We built Lucas Matthysse and got him the fights that have put him in this position, therefore he re-signed with us because he wants to continue on this path to the end of his career."

This is a really poor decision. He should have continued to go with Haymon and signed with Mayweather Promotions. that's where the money is.

Guess we might see him vs provodnikov on hbo soon. This however negates his chances with getting a rematch with haymon promoted Garcia (which I was hoping for in the future.)

Best decision. Golden Boy is stacked and can always find different options for him.

Good! He will have a shot at Manny now. Provodnikov, Marquez, Bradley and Diego Chaves are options too.

A rematch with Garcia was not going to happen.

it's stupid..... I only say this because the fighters GBP have at 140-147 suck.

notable names at 140 = zab, herrera, humberto soto
notable names at 147 = khan, malignaggi, soto karass

none of those fights are interesting but mattyshee vs khan.

on the other hand... Maidana vs matty, thurman vs matty, porter vs matty, floyd vs matty, guerro vs matty, josesito vs matty, berto vs matty.

you tell me what sounds more interesting..

edit: if GBP has options with top rank then it's somewhat interesting. Matty vs Pac, Matty vs bradley, matty vs Provo, Matty vs Marquez is solid as well
