I welcome his opinion years ago I didn't like Holmes at all but after seeing him in many different Interviews I became a fan about 5 years ago. Holmes acts this way for a reason. He is very bitter. He is bitter he had to follow Ali, he is bitter he was often confused with George Foreman or Joe Frazier nobody knew who the guy was, he is bitter his era was weak, and he is bitter about the 2 Spinks fights.

You have to consider his agenda when he is making these comments though. That is all. He has an excuse for every loss on his resume. It is just how Larry is. He is an ATG despite all this. It is hilarious how similar his reign and Wlad's are.

Berbick was a better HW than Chris Byrd. I'll tell you that straight off the bat.

he was going life and death with ****ey. had that been a modern 12 round fight, holmes would have won a close decision.

Prime Larry Holmes beats Vladimir convincingly on points and maybe even by KO. Vlad had some trouble against the only tall, rangy fighter he has fought (Wach), so just imagine what Holmes would do to him.

That said, I don't think we should put a lot of stock into Larry's anаlysis. He's your typical ex-boxer: a curmudgeon.

Сооney was never in control in that fight. Larry looked like he could have won earlier but took his time.

If it had been as competitive as you remember it, there would have been a (very lucrative) rematch.

There is no question that Holmes was the more skilled fighter.

Holmes was a natural fighter, Wlad is still a bit robotic.

Gerry wanted a rematch but Holmes was demanding 30 million which wasn't going to happen. Larry even said he wasn't going to fight Gerry again. That fight took a lot out of Holmes (physically and mentally) as he wasn't at the same peak as he was that night after it. I don't blame Holmes for not having the rematch as Gerry did nothing to earn it.

Vlad's defense is robotic. However, against defensive fighters, he has a very clever offense that escapes the eye at first glance.

It's similar to how Kovalev beat Hopkins and Taylor beat Soliman: he stalks you with small steps forward, or doesn't stalk you at all, and he forces you, the defensive fighter, to some forward yourself, and that's when he makes you pay.

But a great offensive fighter can beat Vlad. I thought Haye would beat him, but his cornermen convinced him to fight like Chris Byrd, who had been brutalized by Vlad.

    Kubrat Pulev: 6'4/6'5
    Wach: 6'7
    Thompsonx2: 6'5
    Austin: 6'6
    McCline: 6'6
    Derrick Jefferson: 6'6
    David Bostice: 6'5

Not that they are worldbeaters, but saying Wach is the only tall and rangy guy he fought is incorrect as is saying he had trouble with Wach who was beaten from pillar to post for 12 straight rounds.
