Larry Holmes: Klitschko has no jab, no heart and would be beaten by Wilder or Stivern

I didn't know they talked about a rematch. I guess I may be remembering the fight wrong. The impression it gave me (a few years ago) was that Holmes was toying around with Cооney until he decided to get him out of there.

Point taken about those other tall guys, but your mention of Thompson further proves my own point: Tony had Vlad in big trouble in their first fight. Just listen to his trainer Emanuel Steward in the corner.

What? The only tall , rangy fighter??? He fought Mccline, austin, wach and a few more and knocked them out or beat them by Wide UD. Wlad is bigger , stronger more powerfull stops Holmes within 10 rounds.

True Thompson 1 was his biggest test in his reign and his hardest fight. Tony came to win the fight at all costs and in the end literally went down more from exhaustion as from Waldo's punch.

All fighters with supposedly bigger names did considerably worse after that. I also rate the win higher than many fans, there is a reason why even ancient Tony can still upset younger prospects, who were rated higher before Thompson stopped their hypetrain.

But you also have to take into consideration that Tony is a southpaw

Holmes wouldn't take the left hands that dropped Pulev heavily, or the right, and I doubt he lands anything substantial on Wlad. He could rock him with the jab, maybe, but he's no win on his sheet that compares to Klit for record and capability, not Gerry ****ey for sure who was a limited slugger by compare.

Gerry was never really in control of the fight. I gave him rounds:
1,3,4 and I think one more (can't remember but it was between rounds 7 and 10) and that was it Holmes won the rest and had a point for a knockdown in the 2nd round and got 3 points for Gerry's low blows. The fight should not have been close on the cards considering all that.

The buildup of the fight along with the grueling heat had more of an effect on Holmes than ****ey did. He went 13 rounds in the desert not an easy thing to do.

****ey wanted a rematch but Holmes said he wanted 30 million. Additionally Gerry did zilch to earn one he sat idle for 2 years then went back to fighting scrubs instead of trying to fight the other legit contenders (Page, Dokes, Coetzee, Weaver, Thomas, Witherspoon, Berbick, etc) so he could earn a rematch. Also, the scorecards were funny as 2 judges had Larry only up 2 points at the time of the stoppage. I think Larry just didn't want to go through all that again and I don't blame him. :good

Haye and Wlad are both better athletes, as well.

Holmes isn't winning the speed game against Wlad and he's not outjabbing him, either. He's got better conditioning, has exceptional recovery, and can take a punch, but Wlad still hits hard enough to knock him out.

    Wlad is slow as ass.

Holmes had the better jab.You take away Wlad's jab and the fight is basically over.
