Cotto isnt a true champ until he defends it, FACT. Its also a fact it was a catchweight so you can basically deny him lineal status if you want as well. Last I checked there is no 159lb lineage :conf

Lots of people let Cotto slide on it until and unless he proved himself a garbage diva, which he is now doing so expect Cotto to catch even more flak in the near future.

Boohoo Cotto wont sign Canelo fight because Canelo called him out in Spanish media? Really? FFS.

Im not gonna say Golovkin is higher. Cotto has the main belt. But let me ask you this, if it was Golovkin with the belt, would Mayweather even attempt to challenge him for it?

I don't understand your butthurtness over this topic. I am not saying that Martinez was at his best but he was the lineal champ and he lost his belt to Cotto. There are plenty of cases where the lineal champ at a weight wasn't arguably the best fighter at that weight. There will be no asterisk by Cotto's name in the record books. He is the legitimate lineal champ at 160 whether you accept it or not.

Probably not but Ray Robinson wouldn't have fought Archie Moore if he held the belt instead of Maxim. This kind of stuff happens all the time.

Suggesting that FLoyd Mayweather fight Gennady Golovkin is an unrealistic suggestion. By that same token, he should not fight Cotto either.

If he does choose to fight Cotto, and defeats him, then he puts himself in the firing line of Golovkin and at that point there should be no reason why they shouldn't fight.

Of course, being realistic the argument would be "He's far too small for Golovkin" - and that would be totally reasonable and fair. So by that rationale, there should be no way he be allowed to fight Cotto (another former welter) for the lineal Middleweight championship.

I think the door should swing both ways - if you fight Cotto, then there is no reason to not fight Golovkin. Personally, I would rather he remain in the weight classes that he belongs and fight the best there (Pacquiao, Khan, Lara).

Just my opinion though. Don't wanna see the lineal middleweight title contested by two Jr. Middleweights and then vacated rather than fighting the man at Middleweight.

No diss on Floyd - he's a natural Welter/Jr Middle so he shouldn't fight any middleweights basically. But you shouldn't get to pick and choose if you wanna be the legit lineal champ.

No one ever questioned Ray Robinson's lack of nerve or fighting the best available opponents. I dont expect him to fight Golovkin, but at the same time he has no problem fighting a guy who has a belt, whom he already beat, but not the guy who is a legitament threat.

Maxim wasn't the best opponent at 175 but he held the belt, that's why Robinson fought him. Boxers take advantage of opportunities just like everyone else that gets ahead in life. If Mayweather does indeed fight Cotto for the lineal middleweight title, he won't be the first boxer to take advantage of an opportunity and he won't be the last.

Yes but he has been making a living the last half of his career fighting the path of least resistance and then getting called the best ever by people who dont really pay attention to boxing.

This is what gets me. Other than Maidana, whose belt Mayweather took in their previous fight, Mayweather has been fighting only title holders and boxers coming off of significant wins. True he hasn't fought Pac, which I suspect is the source of all this butthurtness I read on here, but he hasn't been fighting stiffs either. I want Mayweather to fight Pac just like most people on here but if he doesn't, it doesn't negate the fact that he has had a great career.

If he had fought Pacquiao already instead of making it a big debacle involving silly demands, we wouldnt be having this discussion. He will not fight anyone dangerous at a point in their career when they are dangerous. But instead we get fights like Ortiz, Guerrero, Alvarez, Maidana. Four fights that didnt have to be made. The same can be said of Pacquiao with Bradley, Rios, and Algieri. Mayweather needs to commit to it becasue Pacquiao isnt even being quiet anymore.

    you got it bro

id give mine to see it too

    but probably for different reasons

i want to se GGG rightly crowned the greatest fighter on the planet, and a KO over Floyd would do that

such a shame Floyd is scared enough of smaller guys like Manny and Khan never mind 160lb monsters :verysad

What Pac says doesn't carry any weight. Arum calls the shots at Top Rank.

Mayweather should not fight Golovkin because there are weight classes for a reason. Stop being a hater and be real.
