Yeah, and the same Duran a few months later at the same weight got clowned, frustrated by movement, hard counters and tight defense to the point that he didn't want to compete in a fight.

A Mayweather fight is no walkover for Duran.

 

Only a complete fool in denial would think Duran went into that second fight prepared.

 

And that's the point. Duran had a history of coming into fights unprepared (weight issues, lackluster training, unfocused, etc).

No one can guarantee which Duran would show up for such a matchup.

That looks about right. Although I do think the Duran who fought Moore would also beat Mayweather, but Mayweather would certainly beat the Duran who fought Laing.

 

I agree it's not walk over, but even SRL admitted that he knew Duran was going to party for a couple of months after that win and Duran was at least about 180lb before he went into training camp and didn't loose the weight properly. Now this is on Duran and SRL deserves fair value for his win, but if you are assuming they are both at their best in a hypothetical match up, Duran wins.

 

Well again, you have to assume they both show up at their best. And in Duran's defense he started his professional career at 16 and he was over 30 before his erratic training caught up with him.

But you have touched on one key point, which is that the best of Duran was pretty much unbeatable, but the worst version of Duran was beatable by elite fighters such as SRL and yes Mayweather. So for Duran to win this fight, the best version of him would have to be stepping into the ring and that was either at 135 or 147. But make no mistake, the very best version of Duran is certainly in the top 3 of all time in terms of skill and talent, and for sheer ferocity, he may have had no equal. Had the "No Mas" incident not have happened and had he beat Hagler he likely would be compared to SRR as the best ever he was that good.
