Yeah, I know its far too soon to even consider matching Wilder against the great heavyweights of the past based mainly on his one title winning performance. Its possible he might not even make it to the end of the year as a champion depending on who he meets in the following months but what the hell... lets do it anyway.

As of now, if Wilder was matched against the Heavyweight champs of the past, both the ones considered ATG's and not so greats, who would you say he would definitely have more than a chance of beating?

At this stage we would have to make the strongest possible assumption, that he would lose to all of them.

Wilder seems a lovely guy, he can legitimately punch pretty hard, and he's a calamitous one punch KO loss waiting to happen. Matching him up with greats of the past is like pitting Jorge Luis Gonzalez or Micheal Grant against the legends of days gone by. Pointless.

those right hands against stiverne seem to be getting undersold in general, stiverne had a good chin but those shots were a huge part of stivernes poor effort imo.

he'd beat jim corbett, maybe primo too.

For now Wladimir Klitchko is still the Heavyweight champion, so if and when, Wilder beats him, ( A VERY BIG IF )- then we'll talk about Wilders status among previous champs...

do champions only ever fight other champions?

would no fighter without a belt have a chance vs someone who did hold one?

why even have title fights? the other guy isn't even a champion, no point discussing any tiltle fight ever because the champion always wins by default.

For what ever reason I am seeing Wilder vs the Foreman who fought Holyfield in my head now thanks to this thread. And now I'm intrigued, does the old man bomb out Deontay or does Wilder use his younger legs and great reflexes and athleticism to out point the big man??? Hmmmm

Wilder is a good fighter, but for me, it's too early to tell.He didn't even take out Zelenoff properly.

He'd beat Tommy Burns. Forty pound weight advantage, one foot height advantage, 9" reach advantage. Wilder proved he's not re****ed the other week and I think you'd have to be re****ed in order to let size advantage like that go.

Burns is pretty good IMO, but Qawi was good too, so I don't think it's outrageous, no.

He doesn't have the proven background to favor him against bonafide great heavyweights. But I do think that he has a claim to being as good or better than many of the opponents that a lot of greats faced. With an olympic pedigree, a 33-0 record, track record of keeping busy, standing 6'7" 225 lbs, with proven power and wins over Stiverne and Scott he's gotta be given fair ods against a lot of past title challengers. Gerry ****ey for example was one of Larry Holmes' best wins and I'm not sure that I'd favor ****ey too heavily over wilder if even at all.
