Props to him for beating Stiverne but lets put this into context...

Last week, an American won part of the heavyweight title and no one cared. It’s just that simple. I mean, did you know? Did you know this guy was the first American in eight years to hold part of the title? Did you know he was 32-0 with 32 knockouts coming into the fight, with every KO coming within the first four rounds? Did you know he’s 6-foot-7-inches tall, fast, powerful, and says things like, “I’m a fighter. I love to do this. I love to crush bones and spill blood. I love to make your eyes swell and your lips quiver.” Did you know he became a boxer only after his daughter was born prematurely with spina bifida? That he worked as a beer truck driver to make ends meet after he dropped out of college at 19 to support his daughter?

Did you know any of this?

Used to be a time when this would have been front page news, as it should. A new heavyweight champion? Especially one with this backstory? That was something big. Booked on Letterman and Leno.

    Today? Not so much.

Well the anwser is right in front of you. He won a title.
And the world knows who Wladimir is and his position in boxing.

And U.S does care because Wilders fight was a massive TV ratings hit.

Its not just being a champion its what he does after he becomes a champ. The HW is so dire! The personalities are simply lacking. East Europeans killed HW boxing. They are to put it in a nice way VERY BORING PEOPLE! I know this and have lived in a few East European countries and you cant get more boring people void of any character! Maybe its the weather but boy do they suck when it comes to charisma! :rofl

Maybe it's because he faced NOBODY for 30 fights, and he was gifted a title shot only because he american, against someone that won a title in another undeserved title shot organized only to try and give a belt to an american (Arreola in this case).

Maybe if all those people climbed their way up trough serious opposition and mostly fought more than once or twice a year, people would know their names more.

And in spite of being just a mere bum crusher and an hypejob, he still put together 1,5 millions viewers.

If those are bad numbers, there are only an handful of boxers right now THAT DON'T SUCK.

That's because in your simplified conception of the world, the thing you call "charisma" means acting like a total buffoon, like an enraged teenager.

That's charisma, for you and the simpletons that reasons like you do:

He was on ESPN so what you say doesn't hold water.

They rarely put boxing on Sportscenter.

The numbers were decent for the U.S.

"For the U.S." being the key words there.

For example, to pull the same "per capita" numbers that Wlad pulls in Germany, the Wilder-Stiverne fight would have had to draw a viewership of over 40 million.

    Wilder-Stiverne drew 1.24 million.

Name one east European boxer with a personality? Scratch that name one European sports star with a personality! Which ever sport they go to they drive fans away.

    Boxing -HW dead
Tennis - Tennis a bunch of male and female androids devoid of a personan = poor figures

Thankfully for my two other favourite sports are safe. They have failed in F1 with Petrov and they have no desire to play Golf.

In due time. The HW division has been a mess for so long that it's gonna take more than one fight to really make Americans perk up. We like winners. Wilder has all the attributes, personal and physical. All he has to do now is win a couple more fights in good fashion and the doors will start opening. Lights, cameras, the full meal deal.

I think Americans are starting to see the rest of the world, and therefore they know he is not THE champion eventhough he got a belt, if he should beat Wlad I'm sure USA will care and rightly so.
