Ive mentioned quite a few times recently how sanctioning bodies and their titles are becoming more and more irrelevant in 2015.

Good short interview with Robert Garcia about how attitudes to titles have changed, even since his day.

What use are titles when theres 4 or more champions in each division?

The WBA alone has up to 3 champions on each division.

Fans can tell with their own eyes and by who fights who, who the best is.

If Wlad gave up all his belts tomorrow, would people no longer consider him the best HW?

Cornelius Bundrage has a world title and hes not even a top 10 LMW.

Ranking are a complete pile of ****. You get ranked if you fight in the right fights and your manager is influential.

Its like Garcia said in this video. Mikey Garcia could go to 147 right now and someone would rank him #1

Can we have one thread that doesn't turn into a Mayweather-Pacquiao fanboy-off???

My point is sue to their blatant corruption and the fact that theres about half a dozen of them, sanctioning bodies and their trinkets have made themselves almost irrelevant.

The only thing I can say that Ive noticed lately on why I do like titles.... is it does help fighters who would never be given a shot get a chance against big name opponents. Its one of the few things that forces some fighters/promoters to fight outside their stable.

Well now that tje ibf wbc and wba plan to have the same rankings maybe titles will mean something and we can go back to having undisputed champs again. The real issue is that there are too many dam belts

Titles are needed but with so many around they have no value so to joe public they are meaningless

Yes, too many is obviously a problem, but the ranking systems they have are also a major problems.

Theres guys who aren't even in the top 100 fighters in their division in the top 10 in the rankings, which can lead to massive mismatches in mandatories, like in the Alex Leapai case

Cool. This means that fighters who hold on to titles they have no interest in defending at that weight should just drop them instead and do everyone a favor. Garcia, Floyd, and Cotto would be a good start.
