I think Cotto has a great chance to beat Mayweather in a rematch

What he says outside the ring doesn't have to do with anything that goes on in the ring. In the ring, Cotto doesn't have the style to beat Mayweather, and unfortunately for him, styles make fights. It would be even tougher for Cotto now since Mayweather has already fought him. Your chances to beat Floyd decrease exponentially in a rematch.

It's like when people tried to convince me this "new" Khan under Virgil could beat Pacquiao. Nah, different fighter, same chin.

 

How often does Floyd go out of his way to compliment other fighters and pay them respect? He was doing it for Cotto (and virtually nobody else) for years before they met, when Cotto was lurking out there as a potential rival and threat. Very uncharacteristic of Mayweather, so you can't just write it off as lip service.

He had the style last time to bag a few rounds (4 on my card), bust up Floyd's nose, leave him visibly more fatigued by the end than after nearly any other recent fight, and cause him to remark what a tough fight it was - his toughest in years .

They do indeed, and Cotto since linking up with Roach has resuscitated his old 140lb style which could bring him even more success than he had last time.

Tougher at 160lbs (where Cotto has fought twice and looked strong, but completely uncharted waters for Floyd) and with Floyd having undergone a few extra years of aging? And taken some hard shots from Maidana, at a higher rate than he's taken punches like that in a long time?

That sword cuts both ways. Cotto fought Mayweather already. Mayweather is still Mayweather. Cotto knows him now. Mayweather fought the Cotto of a few years ago, which is not the Cotto of now, stylistically. Advantage Cotto.

How is that a rule? Because it was true of Castillo and Maidana? Name me another Mayweather rematch.

Castillo and Maidna both fought immediate rematches, a matter of months after their first meetings with Mayweather. Neither had undergone any profound changes in their career. They were each the exact same fighter Mayweather had just squeaked by, when he met them a 2nd time.

Not so with Cotto. Very different circumstances.

There is no comparison. Mayweather already had some difficulties with an inferior version of Cotto. That's nothing like the silly people suggesting any Khan (with or without Hunter) would be difficult for Mayweather.

 

It's funny how people forget what they say. A while back people were saying that cotto had beat mayweather, and how mayweather was busted up and that cotto was the hardest fight ever, yada yada yada. Now there's talk about a rematch at 160 and people don't want to see it because they rather see pac and may. Pac is smaller than cotto, and pac fought 3 guys over 9 fights, but yet you guys cried that mayweather fought a rematch with maidana after saying he beat mayweather. and now cotto is a possibility and you guys hate on it. Make up your f.... mind people.

 

If he fights Pac first then sure, why not?

Ill give you some credit,you sure stick up for your man Floyd and should be considered a superfan.

But,i quite like the fight and saw enough in the first fight to make this interesting.IF,Floyds legs are gone a wee bit then Cotto has the skills to take advantage.

 

Cotto has definitely improved under Roach, even though Martinez wasn't in great form.

He has a better chance than last time, but definitely not a great chance.

 

idk why but people seem to have trouble figuring out mayweather is not the same anymore.his reflexes are slowing, getting hit more and missing his bread and butter punches. and floyd will be giving up a bigger size advantage this time around too. plus freddy is very motivated to go against floyd

 

This. You can see all the joyboys now turning around trying to paint this as a great fight the moment they learned that floyd would not fight pac oncr again and instead would rematch cotto.

Cotto is tailor made for Floyd he beats him 10 times out of 10, makes no difference if it's at 147 or 160
