Actually, it looks like you're the one who is "crying a river", getting all upset about one long-dead guy's anti-social behaviour.

Still you are 100% wrong, because it's largely accepted that a citizen's RIGHTS are linked to their RESPONSIBILITIES in any society.
If a persons rights are constantly denied them they can't be expected to have to meet the same responisbilities to that society.
    Basic political philosophy.

The gist of what you are saying is that "Blacks have rights because us whites were kind enough to bestow them rights".

No, I don't think every white person was walking around with a noose waiting to lynch a black person. But some were. And there were not many people walking around trying to stop the lynch mobs, or bring them to justice. They were considered the "good" citizens in many cases, albeit perhaps too keen and excitable.

Just about every riot, lynching and massacre back then was blamed on the blacks by the white press anyway, and we both know what side you would have taken there too. :good

'life for black people in the lower states during johnsons life was not so good', 'johnson was an arrogant bully with sociopathic tendencies', i'd say both were equally true.

whether the former created the latter is a matter of opinion.

    :patsch

Yeah, like the reports in the newspapers weren't completely and automatically biased and skewed with an anti-negro agenda.
Or would you say it was all accurate, "Fair and balanced" ?

Some of the most atrocious killings and massacres of blacks (including women and children) in American history were originally reported as the result of black aggression. Is that the way it really went down then, because the newspapers say so ?

I object enough to say better to let it die a natural death.

It's been interesting to see the lens different people see the world and how they are open to the thoughts of others .. when did this "close out threads" start ? That was the start of the kiss of death to the CBZ ..

All you have to say is, "i'd quite like to continue this conversation" and it won't be shut.

I'm not an expert on CBZ, but i'm guessing that it wasn't that simple.

Still, at least two people, He Grant and klompton seem to be whinging about the notion of it being closed WITHOUT actually saying they want it to be left open so they can continue talking. Just try to do what's asked of you if you want your own way, it might actually happen.

    Agreed.

There are basically two positions on Jeffries.

You either think that he was an ******* who got what he deserved, or you think he made some poor choices, but your respect for him overrides any desire to see him humiliated.

In Johnson's case, no two opinions seem to be the same!

No need to be so defensive McGrain .. I did not know you were empowered to shut down any thread .. was not up on the change in policy. I don't know what the word "whinging" means in the context you used it ..

AS far as CBZ, while a smaller operation, it died out as the editors decided to play a much heavier hand in allowing regulars to post , about what, ect .. their right but the result was lower and lower traffic which was a huge contribution to it dying off ... that and a team that lost interest in the headache ,,

I also object. I find this thread fascinating. It's wonderful how the sport of boxing can funnel an entire era of societal views through the embodiment of one man.
One hundred plus years after his most divisive victory historians and fans still debate not so much the accomplishment of his victory but the merits of the man himself.
