+1 Hearns didn't have a bad beard. The fighters that put him down could crack. You can tell that "tennis" dksab.

That second judge's card was misread. It was revealed after the fight that he scored it 148-147 Duran ... giving Duran a unanimous decision.

The funny part was, when you break it down, that judge scored it 3 rounds for Duran, 2 rounds for Leonard and 10 ROUNDS EVEN.

Most indecisive scorecard in boxing history. 10 ROUNDS EVEN.

Or, if you want to look at it another way, after 14 rounds, the second judge had awarded Leonard exactly ONE ROUND. Terrible.

Not that the other two judges stuck their necks out much, either.

Your score seems right on target.

Not a big fan of the scoring on this fight. The first 4-5 rounds Duran clearly had control of the fight and the momentum. After than it became a see-saw battle where both fighters had their moments. Correct score should have been about 9-6 for Duran in terms of rounds won/lost.

As Bert Sugar said, the Japanese judge thinks someone named "even" is the new champ.

Great fight. A little too much holding for my liking, but at least did a good job of fighting in and out of the clinches.

Leonard was an undefeated 24 year old in his prime, if Duran wasn't prime, he was really close to it. His best division was 135, but you can't watch him at 147 against Palomino or this fight and say he doesn't look outstanding.

Also, as much as Leonard claimed that Duran's trash talk got to him and that made him abandon his game plan/outside boxing skills, there's other articles beforehand where Leonard and Dundee said they would fight more aggressively because of the size advantage. Duran was a naturally smaller guy. Leonard's normal fighting style was more flat-footed anyway, he really switched up for the rematch. Leonard was actually very sharp and fought well, Duran just fought better.

Leonard's stamina was really on display here, too. He took a hammering to the body. And yet he finished strong, in a 15 round fight.

The only thing missing in that fight was the "round red nose" for Leonard!!!

That was Leonard's own style in the rematch. He rarely fought that way. The Hagler rematch, Duran 2-3, spots against Howard.

He normally fought more flat-footed and had an awesome left hook. Way more aggressive than people remember, he is one of the all-time great finishers.

The fact that Leonard was able to fight way in those fights just shows his versatility.

The problem I have with most Floyd fans is they think Leonard and Mayweather are interchangeable, which is complete bs. Leonard was far more aggressive (relative to Mayweather) and had far more power than Floyd has ever shown at welterweight.

in fact the only reason I have Duran ranked above Leonard on a p4p basis is because of the number of fighter each fighter had. If SRL had another 12-15 fights under his belt and fought well in these fights, I would have no problem ranking him ahead of Duran.

No, they don't. But Duran defenders love to default to that strawman argument anytime someone suggests that Duran wouldn't streamroll Mayweather.

    But hey, please proceed, Governor.

Maybe you're not one of them, but yes, there have been numerous posts to that refer to Mayweather and Floyd as being interchangeable, and in fact a not so small (but vocal) minority even think Floyd would beat SRL. How that would ever be accomplished remains a mystery to me.

Leonard and Mayweather fought nothing alike. Leonard had no problem in taking it to an opponent although I thought they stopped the fight to early against Hearns and got a gift decision against Hagler. But nevertheless he was a quick fighter who preferred to attack with quick combinations and use his upper body. The concept about Leonard being some sort of run around the ring, chase me fighter was just something created in his rematch with Duran when he decided he was going to fight that way to really offset an out of shape Duran. Leonard has even said publicly that Duran was out of shape and he was going to take advantage of that

I'm, so damn tired of hearing this BS excuse. Being in shape is a part of boxing, having stamina is important we have seen many fighters lose because of lack of fitness, it's nothing new. That's a flaw in his game.:deal Just as guys like PBF, Hopkins and Froch always come in into a fight in good shape is an asset.

Doesn't change the fact that when Duran showed up in shape, Leonard failed to deliver. He's lucky Duran after 74 fights didn't have the same urge to train. Also doesn't change the fact that Leonard waited for after Hagler to show wear and tear before he challenged him. Leonard had great victories, but he also beat around the bush too. Which explains why so many Mayweather fans like Leonard and try to suggest they fight the same

If you call failed to deliver a close fight that could have gone either way then so be it. The fact is that in the rematch SRL fought a smarter fight and Duran quit period and No Mas overshawdows his career. He also got knocked the **** out by Hearns and lost to De Jesus but what's your excuse for that one?
