    On Greb:

"But I've never SEEN him, so how can I say he was any good??"

Here's some guys he beat that you can see on Youtube. A lot of them look like they would make easy work of today's best fighters. You can deduce pretty easily how good Greb must have been to beat some of these guys the way he did.

    On Tape:
Gene Tunney 1-3-1 (Dominant win, Robbery loss, Clear loss, Clear win, Clear loss. They pretty much had a JMM/Pac relationship, but each guy had one seriously dominant win over the other. The real record should read 3-2.)
    Tommy Loughran 4-1-1
    Tommy Gibbons 2-2
    Mike Gibbons 1-1
Kid Norfolk 1-1 (Disputed DQ loss)
    George Chip 2-2
    Jimmy Delaney 4-0
    Bill Brennan 4-0
    Mike McTigue 2-0
    Mickey Walker
    Jimmy Slattery

Not on Youtube, but still good:
    Maxie Rosenbloom
Tiger Flowers 1-2 (Both losses considered robberies)
    Jack Dillon 2-0
    Billy Miske 2-0-1
    Willie Meehan 2-0
    Chuck Wiggins 8-0-1
    Battling Levinsky 6-0
    Jack Blackburn

Skill: Most of his losses are on the first page of his boxrec. After that, he only loses to HOF-type fighters. Always won the series except against Tunney, and he arguably won that one. Oh, and he was blind in one eye for almost all of his best wins.
Durability: Legendary. Greb was stopped twice in like 300 fights. Once in one of his first fights, and once when he broke his forearm.
Speed: Legendary. EVERYBODY said he was the fastest.
    Stamina: Legendary. Almost weird.
Power: Not much of that but he could bust people up pretty good and had enough power to beat heavyweights and beat up Dempsey in sparring.
Defense: You don't fight 30-40 times a year in little tiny gloves without having quality defense.

I lost all respect for your boxing knowledge when I read Floyd at n.3, and no mention of Harry Greb who has a good case for n.1.

Great post. Harry Greb often gets overlooked because the films of his fights have all been lost.

Looking at his resume and thinking about the greatness of all the fighters he beat requires logical reasoning, which most boxing fans don't have because they drink beer instead of water.

As much Boxing as I watch from Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Argentina, Mexico, trying to keep track of current fighters not shown on US TV, coupled with watching the ones that are on US TV, add to that my enthusiasm for other sports and film and TV shows and music, I would be doing nothing but watching something 24 hrs a day:scaredas: I 've been watching Boxing since I was a little kid and the fighters I've grown up with from Leonard to Tyson to Jones to Pacquiao have made too much of an impact on my psyche to be easily replaced by newspaper reports and grainy Youtube footage, not saying they weren't any good, just I like to stick to the present and the past 30 or 40 years that's my comfort zone.

I have no problem admitting I don't know everything there is to know about the sport, I know almost everything but I'm content not knowing it all. And I certainly am not going to pretend like I'm an aficionado on boxers no ones ever seen on film to prove just how smart I am. I tend to find that to be very pretentious behavior out of a lot of fans.

Well there should really be two threads, one on Top 10 regardless of whether youve seen them or not, and one on the guys you've seen several fights of

@KillSomething - yeah youre right about being able to judge Greb on who he's beaten if theres enough footage of them

    @CST80 - no nicknames :?

@y'all - anyone who has Pacquiao above consensus #1 JMM clearly DKSAB :deal

I couldn't give you a top 10 list. TBH, I only started watching boxing on a regular basis 3 years ago. While I have learned a lot, I'm still a novice compared to most people on this forum.

i was thinking the same earlier. its not only totally subjective, but your own list changes with the weather. the only thing i think we can all agree on is Dinamita at no.1, the rest is blowing in the wind

What's wrong with my list my little dog? Come bark for me. Is it the fact that I don't have any eurobums on there? Who on my list do you not agree with having up there?
