That was my impression last time I saw it and I'm not alone in thinking it (if Duran took one more round on the cards he would have won). I'll rewatch it and see if my opinion changes if I score it RBR.

Point is it was Hagler, and it was CLOSE.[/quote] this is the kind of insanity i'm talking about....

    - leonard and duran fight to a virtual draw in the first fight, and idiots like this want to say duran dominated.

    - hagler dominates duran for 15 rounds and idiots like this want to say it was close and duran was robbed.

    can't argue with dumba88

best person to compare duran's career with is actually ssm.

    - both lw champs. duran had 12 defenses, ssm had 8. duran lost to dejesus, shane remained undefeated.

    Comparison: ssm better at lw.

    - both jumped to ww. duran won a decision over srl. ssm won a decision over odlh. srl fought with a handicap

Comparison: ssm's win is more meaningful than duran's.

    - both lost their ww titles. duran quit against srl, ssm lost to vernon forrest.

Comparison: ssm went out like a champ...duran went out like a punk. ssm wins.

    - both moved up in weight and challenged for the jmw title. duran lost to benitez, beat moore and got poleaxed by hearns. ssm beat dlh and lost to winky.

Comparison: DLH is better than moore. winky is equal to or better than benitez... ssm wins.

    - duran challenged hagler and lost a decision.
    Comparson: not applicable.

among the lesser champs, duran beat palomino, cuevas, moore and barkley. shane beat vargas, collazzo, mayorga, margarito and in my opinion, Cotto.
    Comparison: ssm wins.

Conclusion: overall, the two had similar trajectories to their career and a lot in common...however ssm had better overall success and therefore ranks higher....

posters like this ruin the forum. by trying to Say Mayweather is better than Duran we end up having ppl discredit both instead of just admiring that both have great careers and are locked into the top 50 AtTGs.

dude, you're just making excuses for duran being obliterated by hearns.

lemme ask you this...do you think it's EVER possible that being the shorter guy might be at an advantage?

I don't think you know what a "physical advantage" is.

duran is definitely overrated.. the op is right i find duran at the 50 level of atg no where near top ten..he's no mas against sugar ray proved to me he wasn't some legendary fighter but a good one who couldn't cut it at the elite level.

people mentioning the barkley win are stupid. duran was never the lineal champ at 160 or 154 and never defended a title outside of 135.. floyd has 8 title defenses of the lineal 147 title and gets no credit..race is definitely a factor in what fighter gets credit for wins .

    :patsch

And not a single one of those lineal champs Floyd beat could carry Duran's spit bucket .
