in boxing, a lotta talent gets wasted...but few as tragically as erislandy lara's. lara has beaten and exposed a raft of top contenders at jmw and mw. still, he's one of the most overlooked fighters in boxing.

    consider:

    - dominated paul williams in losing one of the worst decisions ever...zero controversy, zero calls for a rematch. this is what happens when a fighter has a small organic fan base.

    - Won one of the most exciting fights of the year in KOing alfredo angulo.

    - conclusively beat austin trout, a top contender and former champ, a performance that compared favorably with canelo alvarez's questionable win over trout.

    - beat canelo alaverez, losing another controversial decsion...this time there was an uproar from fans who saw the blatant injustice, but still muted by the lack of a fan base.

    - dominated ishe smith, another former champ and top contender.

lara is a brilliant fighter who dominates at on world-class level. he was ducked by sergio martinez and is being ducked by canelo alvarez...

i, for one, feel privileged to be able to watch lara fight...i love his technical brilliance and prodigious talent.

if there was any justice in boxing, lara would be recognized as the #3 or #4 pfp guy in the world and a genuine superstar. he deserves the big HBO or showtime contracts far more than canelo or any other fighter out there not named mayweather, rigondeaux or ward.

His loss to Saul Alvarez was highly controversial indeed. There should be a rematch.

He wasn't robbed against Canelo. I was rooting for him, felt he may have just edged it but it certainly was not a clear cut thing and you cannot say Canelo winning is a robbery at all.

What about his fight with Molina which many felt he lost?

What about his draw with Vanes, Vanes cannot even get a big name in the ring with him.

Sorry but Lara is hyped just right, not over hyped like Canelo and not under hyped like many hundreds of fighters have been. He will get more chances let's see how he does.

This ^. I like Lara - rate him as a very capaable fighter with bags of talent, but if you're talking top 3/4 P4P you want a guy to be dominating these kinda fights, not scr@ping by . Lara's very good but he's not on another level like, say, Rigo.

You see, he didn't and doesn't really beat people conclusively. He is a very skilled boxer but he simply does not have a high enough punch output to be a fan favourite. i like him Rigo Abril etc and the Cuban style in general but they have to make their opponents pay when they miss a bit more. Your post is slightly biased I would say.

well, you know I hink he was robbed against canelo.

i hear a lotta canelo fans don't want a rematch because lara is "too boring"

of course we all know that really means lara would beat canelo's a88 again...but the promoters and many fans don't want to see canelo in another losing effort. so, they're like "pay no attention to the cuban gy who just handed canelo his a88."

the thing people don't understand about lara is, the molina fight was only his 16th bout. lara was still learning the pro game when he fought that guy...and molina, a former world titlist, is very awkward. but at this point, lara now has the experience to go along with his talent... he's going to be unstoppable...he'll beat cotto easily....he'll beat ggg if they have the ***** to make the fight. lara is a true elite guy right now...he just doesn't have a huge enough fan base to give him that extra visibility he can cross over to supers****om.

Canelo looked lost and confused in the ring with Lara, I don't see how anyone could think Canelo won that.

This guy is more boring than Haye and Ward together. He has guts against bums like Trout but against Canelo he ran a marathon.

GGG? - I don't think so, though Lara has the potential with his movement and countering to do a lot better than most. GGG is an entirely different beast to Canelo with far better ring awareness and control yet Lara failed to look magnificent against Alvarez who has neither Golovkins ability to cut off the ring, timing or power.

That said it is a fight I'd very much like to see - we've yet to see either Golovkin face a really talented mover or Lara in with a really skilled pressure fighter (sorry Canelo, but you ain't - much as admire your ***** for taking the tough fights).
