So now I'm reading that GRJ (similarly stupid to Lomachenko getting his shot) is getting a title shot against Jhonny.

WTF? The guy was completely washed out against Loma. No way he deserves this. This kind of nonsense really kills my belief in this sport.

Hype means more than skills or wins. I suppose you could try and take the positive spin and give Russell credit for immediately taking on a tough fight after getting embarrassed, but it just feels so cheap to me.

He lost his world title bid via MD, and has actually fought since. (a shutout of Chris Martin)

He isn't coming directly off that loss, and he didn't fall too far down the rankings anyway.

Really? That's what you're gonna go with? Anyone that watched the Loma fight saw Russell was way overmatched... and Chris "who the f*ck is he" Martin that got like 2 weeks notice before the fight?

    Come on man?

In fairness the MD should never have been an MD...

Must suck to be one of those on the outside looking in at some fighters getting undeserved chances, Alberto Guevara being another who seems to get more chances than he should

    Robberies
    Too many belts
Top fighters not fighter each other
    Too much hype too soon
Way too high PPV prices and ****ty undercards
    Protecting up and comers
    Fighters dying after a fight

These are the things that suck about boxing

I think GRJ has a good shot agaisnt Jhonny, let's be real, Jhonny is not even close to a Lomachenko caliber guy. If the odds were heavily in Jhonny's favor I'm definitely placing a hefty v cash bet on GRJ.

He doesn't really deserve it but there have been far worse and less deserving contenders.

If he was coming directly off the loss it'd be one thing, but the guy is still ranked highly in the division by pretty much every org (as his only career defeat was in a world title bout, and to guy being projected to be an elite, and officially was only a MD, regardless of how it actually went down in the ring - so that loss doesn't really hurt Russell's standing too much) and he just posted a dominant W over a guy that, while merely a fringe contender, is still a live body compared with most of his pre-Lomachenko opposition (Martin is exactly the kind of guy people were begging for Russell to be tested against before earning a title shot in the first place) and not a tomato can.

I don't love him getting a shot at Gonzalez, but I don't hate it either, considering Gonzo has been chasing Mares unsuccessfully and nobody else considers the reward of the green belt worth the risk of getting KTFO. (meaning guys like green-ass Clive Atwell or shot-to-bits Arce get cracks at him..and IMO those are worse than Russell getting one, now)

    Yes, yes it does.

Havent ever felt this way towards the sport.... if a few key fights don't happen this year I could see it fading from my front burner, interest wise. I love the essense of the sport and will forever, but the politics are killings this sport for me. Haymon, GBP, TR, RocNation (who has bad blood with Haymon), HBO, SHO, sanctioning bodies, the countless counts of corruption, and last but not least is this new desire by the new generation to seek out the path of least resistance, in a completely shameless way.

But idk, I might be just venting.... to stop following boxing would be near impossible

GRJ doesn't deserve a shot at JG but this is a fight I believe GRJ can win.

Problem is that if GRJ wins he might hold that belt hostage for awhile.
