I've always felt Mayweather-Pacquiao plays out like Mayweather-Chavez from 2000/1.

With Mayweather mixing it up by keeping him at the end of the jab and straight right on the outside and the left uppercut on the inside. Due to volume and workrate by Pac, Mayweather would have to be aware when going from the outside in because Pac is dangerous in the midrange I think it would be a high paced fight with maybe more action than we would've got in 10". Ultimately Pac succumb to swelling or cuts for a late TKO rd10/11 with scores like 6-5/7-4/7-4 Mayweather at the time of the stoppage.

I think the big key thing is Manny doesn't have the huge size advantage most of Floyd's opponents have, he doesn't have the ability to physically muscle Floyd on the inside. Manny & Floyd are both gonna be around 148/51 fight night his usual opponents weight in at 165+ .

Try and catch Pac coming in to try and lower pacquiaos output and keep him on the end of the jab.

Mannys power has definitely declined , no one can't deny that . It's the truth

But he even now he can still crack and hurt you .

Bradley praised Pac power recently , he said in the first fight Manny never hurt him but in the rematch he admitted Manny hurt him , everything time Manny hit him the lights were flickering and going black .

TB goes on to say he believes Manny is still a big puncher but Ruslan s power is more superior .

    _

Pac punches were hard enough to put Algieiri down 4 more times than Provodnikov could .

Although I admit 2 of those knockdowns were clearly slips .

It still surprised me , the way Algieri easily absorbed Provodnikovs haymakers for the majority of the their fight .

I expected Algieri to not even blink whenever Manny hit him .

Pacquiao proved his power is still there .

People keep talking about Pacquaio's size. Lol.

What difference does his size make in this fight? When has Pacquaio ever tried to outmuscle his opponent???

And Mayweather is not big enough, nor does he have the style to impose his size on Pacquaio.

Mayweather's does have a size advantage; however, but it comes down to his reach, which helps him both offensively and defensively.

The strength of each boxer is this scenario is of negligible value.

Pacquaio is not a fighter that uses his strength, so he won't play into Mayweather's game of using his elbows in the inside.

Pacquaio is an explosive fighter. He relies on his footwork, explosiveness, volume, angles, and punching power.

Mayweather's difficulty will be defending not only from Pacquaio's angles, but also his ability to rapidly close distance. If Mayweather's reflexes have slipped to the point to where he can't move away fast enough from Pacquaio's punches, he will lose.

The problem is, Mayweather has been fighting slow fighters recently, so it's hard to judge exactly what he can do at this point.

The last guy Mayweather fought that had a relatively explosive style, was Miguel Cotto, and that was arguably Mayweather's most difficult fight, aside from the first Maidana fight.

But in that fight, Miguel chose to abandon his explosiveness, as he opted to smother Mayweather instead.

When Cotto did use his jab he caught Mayweather several times, but obviously, Cotto didn't believe he could utilize that style throughout the fight.

We don't know how the outcome would have changed. I imagine if Cotto and Floyd fought today, Cotto would rely on his footwork and explosiveness to beat Mayweather instead of smothering him.

He would use an in and out style.

Would it be effective? I don't know.

I think Mayweather has lost a step. But Mayweather could very well go back on the PEDs that he used when he failed 3 drug tests back in the day.

No he'll give the same defense first performance he's been giving up for the last 5+ years.

Very seriously doubt that!! Floyd has big issues with short fighter that get under his shots. Pac may not bet as technical as floyd but he knows how to get under shots and fire his own. This could be trouble for any fighter just ask Hatton, and who tried to press pac, but was told repeatedly NOT to press the smaller faster fighter. Both fighter took unnecessary punches because they tried to steam roll pac. Just not a good idea and Floyd knows that .

This may get slid into the big thread but I thought this was something cool for everyone to think about.

A lot of people say that Roach will have trouble finding sparring partners for pacquaio to prepare for mayweathers style. But one thing that nobody has really mentioned atleast as far as I know is that...

Years ago Roach had the privilege of training James Toney for a lot of his championship fights and of all the fighters in the history of boxing besdies floyd. James Toney is probably the next best practitioner of the Shouler Roll/Philly shell style. Roach has to know the inner workings of it from personal experience...

Something interesting to think about. :good

I thought about it (for like 10 seconds) and I have come to the conclusion that this thread is not thread worthy.

Why would he walk Pac down. Why not knock him out like he did Hatton. Or knock him out like Marquez did.

Why in the hell would Floyd try to stand and trade against Pacquiao? That sounds like suicide.

I pick Floyd to beat Pacquiao by UD. Pacquiao may have speed, power, pressure, and angles, but his jab is nonexistent. He's also vulnerable to straight right hands, and Floyd has a great one.

Floyd should use his usual approach of boxing. Pacquiao can't hope to outbox him.
