Matthew macklin - will he box again?

Macklin needs to fight more ofter or retire...............

 

He got seriously out worked, out hustled and sparked out in his last fight. He looked like a fighter that had had his day when he was on the ropes.

He's finished.

 

Enjoyed watching Matt Macklin throughout his career, imo he was never world level and did very well getting the Euro belt and challenging for the World title but he really now looks a shadow of his former self and looked very gun shy against the Argie last time out, can anyone on here really have seen the Macklin of 5 years ago being bullied against the ropes without having a proper go at him?

I thank him for all the exciting fights he has been involved in and I hope he retires and gives something back to the sport.

 

Spot on, but Len will be along in a minute to explain that Mat was a World beater who had the odd day off from the gym. :rofl

 

Right not to retire?

Matt got laid out pretty disgustingly against a younger version of himself, in front of 5000 of his countrymen against an unknown quantity.

He was daft not to retire, seeing how smart he apparently is and how the fight panned out, ended and given him losing his place as a world class fighter by each passing fight.

 

Will he fight on yes , should he fight on no. It was very clear from his Dublin fight that he is finished. Not taking anything away from Macklin I've been a big fan and he deserve huge respect.

 

If you was close to him, would you say it wasn't that bad of a loss and to crack on with another fight?

 

It can be very hard to actually tell someone close to you or that you have trained that it is now time finish, Matt has been in some very gruelling fights and if he is being given a soft touch as a retirement fight in front of his home crowd in Birmingham then I don't see a problem with it.

If I was close to him i would be wanting to take him aside and maybe even show him his last couple of performances compared to when he was at his best and try show him the difference in how he is even approaching the fights. No fighter wants to believe he is done or his time is over and if his team really care for him and his health then they should be telling him the truth.

This is only my opinion on what i have seen with him in his last couple of performances and I would love to be proved wrong and see him back firing again.

 

Is Moore still training him? Or have they got their separate ways?

 

It makes me sick that Macklin and Lee never fought. Always wanted to see that
