first 3 rounds would pretty much decide the fight
Tyson would need to get to wlad in those rounds (and Tyson would have a chance to get to anybody in the first three rounds), or else wlad would likely UD him

People watch Wlad hugging and wrestling shorter guys like Povetkin and Mormeck and because they don't know anything about boxing just assume that Wlad would do the same to Tyson because he is also shorter. But Tyson, with his speed, lateral movement, ability to fight on the inside and punching power, would be a nightmare for Wlad.

Hopefully people don't mistake it with the November version, it was already past-prime.

Even a prime Tyson was only a 6 round fighter -- even when he won , always struggled beyond 6 rounds. Check out the Bruno fight. Bruno was giving him major problems. Tyson was so relieved when they stopped it. I thought Bruno was ok at that time.

What all time great IN HIS PRIME did Tyson beat??

Wladimir is better than Buster Douglas and Mitch Green. If Douglas could knock the fight out of Tyson and Green could trouble him, I'm certain Wlad can.

Again... therapy fantasy for Wlad haters.

If you watch that fight that is the first fight where cracks started to show in Tyson. His head movement was gone, he was headhunting, punching wildly and inaccurately and yet still destroyed a determined Bruno who fought the fight of his life.

He still had his a lot of his killer instinct, power and determination against Bruno but the level of skill he showed was about 30% of his usual self. That fight was definitely the start of his decline.

And don't tell me it's cos Bruno made him look bad because that is bull****. Bruno couldn't make Tyson's head stop moving and stop him throwing accurate combinations, only Tyson himself could do that.

What all time great in their prime did anyone beat? Ali beat bums like Liston and Cooper and they too became great just because they fought him. The fact is the fighters from the Ali era were not as great as people like to think.

Only if Tyson had been around in the 60s/70s would he get the status he deserves.

    Not quite.

In none of the three losses he's suffered, has anyone mopped the floor with him.

He was well ahead and ran out of gas in two of those bouts.

In the Sanders bout, he showed a very good chin getting up twice from monster shots, punches that would have KO'd most HWs, including Lennox.

This could unfold a number of different ways. If Wlad can keep Tyson at the end of his jab, and eventually break him down, it could be a bad night for Mike.

However, Mike has the better fundamentals and his boxing skills are often underrated.

If I had to bet money on a single match between these guys, both at prime, I'd put it on Tyson.

But I wouldn't bet very much.

He did not show a good chin in the Sanders fight.

    He got blown out.

You can't really give him any credit for what happened in that fight.

    Go back and watch it.

Most HWs would have been KO'd by the first of the big shots that Sanders landed that evening. Lennox succumbed to a lesser punch from Rahman.

Louis was KO'd by a lesser punch from Schmeling.

A fighter who gets blown out early by monster punches does not necessarily have a shaky chin.

Louis and Duran , among others, come to mind.

Wlad did not fight a good fight. He was far from prime at the time. But despite what most believe, his chin was shown to be very decent.

    Its pointless to rationalize it.

Could Lewis have been KOd by those shots?

    Sure but I don't know.

Would an inshape Lewis be KOd by that Sanders?

I wouldn't put money on it

    I did watch it recently.

He got KOd early by an out of shape Sanders.

Should I give him an award for that

btw, I rate Wlad fairly highly these days

    He did.

His overall performance was NOT good.

    But he showed good chin.
