Just curious. Can an amateur boxer go pro whenever he wants? Or does he have to achieve some amateur milestone to be accepted in the pro game? This isn't a question about can any amateur do well in the pros, but rather can any amateur elect to go pro whenever...

amateurs can go pro whenever, hell you dont even have to have amateur fights atleast here in aus. all you need is this "boxing book" all fighters have and it requires you to get signed off from doctors who do a checkup on you. as long as you are fit and healthy they will usually sign off on you

You don't need to even be an amateur. You need a couple of bucks for a license and a clean bill of health.

    Etc etc.

You can turn pro at anytime. It's only the good amateurs that usually dominate the pro game. many tomato cans have done it, they get themselves in good shape just to earn a few extra bob.

Dwight Qawi never fought in the amatuers, and he is enshrined in the HOF.

Sergio didn't have much of an amateur career(39-2) and he's made a pretty damn good pro.

Don't forget about us when you become champion. Give esb a shoutout when Max or Jim Gray are interviewing you.

Some of the best fighters of all time had either limited or mediocre amateur careers.

As has been said, plenty of pro's never even had amatuer experience.

I think the point is more that you go pro if you get an offer from someone to give you paid fights - that is what defines you as 'professional'. So of course, the better you are as an amateur, the higher the likelihood of you turning pro as people will be courting you. Even if you aren't a great amateur, or a total novice, someone may see something in you that they want to use as an opponent, or even just marketing - so the potential is always there.
