It would've sold millions & millions of PPVs in both UK & US..

Hatton made £17M for Mayweather & Benn was a much bigger name than Hatton over here and a much more mysterious figure in US postMcClellan..

I do agree with you here. It was well aired at the time with the HBO people that Jones was demanding guarantees of 5 mill per fight plus extras, and the HBO people said it couldn't work ( unless the other guy took 4 dollars 50 cents ) because people simply were not prepared to pay to see him in glorified sparring sessions against C class fighters.

Personally I think that is why he took the Ruiz fight because compared to the quiet man Jones figures would look like ODH's. Furthermore I don't care who he had lunch with, or took dog fighting, ( I mean come on ffs, who are top class fighters more likely to associate with? Other fighters, trainers, promoters, or bricklayers, and fork lift truck drivers? Its not rocket science. ) there was no way on earth he seriously considered fighting a live Heavyweight.

Again fighting Ruiz is proof enough in itself for that to be true.

Jones suddenly had no issue fighting for DK to make the Ruiz fight.. Kings options on Jones would've included a fight (or 2) with Frankie Liles..............;)

PPV wasnt as developed back then and also Hatton made that money a decade later.

17 million for Hatton would probably be more like 25 million in Benns/Jones day.

A £50 million purse for Jones/Benn sounds pretty insane

King was prepared to promote it as a 'revenge mission' (for what happened to Gerald) though (to be fair that's what put Jones off) which would've gone beyond boxing.. Pretty sick (but that's Don, anything for a dollar)..

Conversely are you denying that the DM people worked just as hard to get Jones to fight their guy in Germany?

Did Roy turn down the DM fight when Universum offered him $6m? Yes or no.

Did he refuse to fight Michael Nunn when he was made his mandatory? Yes or no.
