Fifteen rounds, modern gloves and rules, who do you like?

    Povetkin would only need one.

I would expect Jeffries to win this.

Povetkin I think is on par or in some ways better than Jerry Quarry. He's a little under rated by historians who have not watched most of his significant fights outside of Wlad. The man can box, take a punch, has old school intangibles / heart. His power in his left hook is decent. His hand speed is good. At his best he can string together combinations.

But he also has an attacker's forward moving type of style which means he's going to get hit.

I think Povetkin makes a good showing but losses as Jeffries wears him down with body shots in the later rounds of the fight

My expectations of a prime Jeffries would make me lean with him but A. P. is a big boy for that era and a force. It would be a fast paced 12 rds and a rugged 20 rds. I think A. P. is just peaking

Just peaking? His style doesn't age well and he's 35. If Wlad retires by 2016, Povetkin has a chance to be #1 overall.

This is an insult for Povetkin. He cleans Jeffries out in a round without even trying too hard.

How exactly is it an insult for Povetkin?

Jeffries dominated an era, while Povetkin was just a footnote.

If anything it is an insult to Jeffries!

Which era, early 20th century? The guy had no defense and no offense, no footwork and barely any movement. If you compare that to Povetkin, then it's pretty obviously an insult.

That's like comparing 1890/1900s football players to Messi and Ronaldo, makes no sense.

How much good footage of Jeffries do we have? I know which way I lean but it seems farfetched to be certain of anything.

How exactly have you established that he had no offence, defence or footwork?

Has there ever been any fighter of which this is true?

Even if you don't think he was technically good, you can't simply overlook the gulf in resume between him and Povetkin.

If you are going to argue that advances in the sport nullify the gulf in resume, then the onus is upon you to prove this.

If you make any assumption, you have to say what it is, and why you are making it.

    By viewing the footage perhaps?

He couldn't even throw a single accurate combination (not that he was able to put together any combo judging by the available footage). No way he could have made it out of a round against Sasha.

Jeffries' resume? How many professional training camps did those guys have? It is not only an insult to Povetkin, but to any modern top level professional athlete to be compared to those guys.

I guess that next we could compare John Sullivan to Vitali Klitschko. Maybe Sullivan walks him down over 80 rounds?

Exactly what footage do you have of Jeffries in his prime that tells you anything?

There is some fairly clear footage of a washed up Jeffries fighting Jack Johnson, and it is obvious from your statements that you have never viewed it in any detail.

You then go on to ask how many professional training camps these guys had, which means that you have not bothered to do the most basic research.

Had you done so you would realise that Jeffries training regime puts most modern heavyweights to shame.

In short you are basing your position on a massive assumption that is simply wrong.
