How do you see a 12 rounder between Tommy "The duke" Morrison and George Chuvalo playing out?

The way I see it going down is the Duke wins the early rounds by landing the more solid shots I'd expect him to hit Chuvalo with the kinda punches that would put a normal fighter out. Chuvalo though takes it to Morrison the entire time working away on his body and landing some solid shots to the head as well. I expect Morrison to begin to fold around the 5th round and Chuvalo to continue his consistent body attack and eventually break Morrison down around the 8th sending an exhausted Morrison to the canvas a number of times before the ref stops the bout. Chuvalo to me is bad match up for Morrison because of his consistent pressure and body attack and his granite chin. Lesser fighters who could take Morrison punch and keep coming gave Morrison very tough fights and we all know what happened to him when he faced Mercer who is one of the few guys who could withstand a similar amount of punishment as Chuvalo.

Chuvalo had bad nights where not very good fighters could outpiont and outbox him. He also had great nights where he would be too much for Morrison.

Overall Chuvalo should have this, I think Morrison boxes well but eventually gets caught and overwhelmed. I don't see Morrison pulling off a Patterson and outboxing him all night while eating heavy body punishment to protect his chin.

I see Morrison on points. If Morrison could outpoint Foreman, even an old Foreman, then he could outpoint Chuvalo.

Frazier shattered the facial bone of Chuvalo with left hooks and stopped him in 4.

Morrison had one of the greatest left hooks ever, right up there with Frazier's and may have been more powerful.
His left hook and right uppercut were pitch perfect and lethal.
Chuvalo was a guy known for losing fights, not winning them.
Tommy blows him clean out of the water.

Ya'll musta forgot about Morrison. He was once overrated , but now horribly underrated.
Look at his 1 round destruction of Tillis. Ain't nobody ever done in Tillis like that.
    Crazy speed and power.

This is a tough one for me, but I go with TM.

I think he probably outboxes GC and lands significant blows that tell the story.

Chuvalo pressures better than Old Foreman, works harder, and throws more punches. Ali and Patterson couldn't get away from him and had to eat countless body shots, the tough Quarry got caught and put down, Morrison wouldn't be able to walk away from this guy at his leisure.

Chin and stamina win it late for Chuvalo, who had the power to put Morrison down.

I think Morrison (the version in 93 that beat George) would outbox, and be too quick, versatle, and athletic, for the predictable slow footed Chuvalo who was known best for taking punishment, and not ability:smoke

Both guy's left their sacks in the ring, this one would be special to see:shock:

    MORRISON CLOSE BUT CLEAR UD:think

Morrison would stop Chuvalo with todays rules. Tommy starts fast and the ref puts an end to it in round 3.

If it goes past 3 then Tommy wins on Points.

Chuvalo needs to get in close, Tommy did not let fighters get inside often. He is a better boxer than George and keeps chuvalo far enough away to beat him on the cards.

This is a very good point. Chuvalo when he showed up was a very tough opponent for just about anyone he proved this in his two fights with Ali and his war with Patterson. Chuvalo though often showed up looking less then impressive. I don't know whether it was mental or it had to do with lack of oppurtinity to prepare or perhaps preparing too much for certain fights but Chuvalo looked to be no better then a journeymen on some nights/stages of his career while on other nights/stages of his career he looked like a top contender. Morrison on the other hand had his ups and downs but it was more obvious then Chuvalo. Sometimes it was clear Morrison hadn't prepared properly for certain fights but when prepared Morrison was fairly consistent in both his abilities and vulnerabilities. I'm not underestimating "The Duke's" abilities at all I feel he was a very good fighter and clearly a devastating puncher who could be a real tough test for certain fighters but stylistically I feel Chuvalo on a good night is big trouble for Morrison. Morrison for the most part aside from the Foreman fight seemed to struggle with guys who could take his punch and keep coming. Chuvalo IMO would almost certainly be able to do this. Chuvalo when he was right had a very punishing body attack he was able to get to the body of both Patterson and Ali. I don't see Morrison being able to stand up to the kinda of body attack Chuvalo unleashed on Patterson and Ali through a 12 round fight. The fights with Joe Hipp and Ross Purrity to go along with what Ray Mercer did to him help support my opinion that Morrison may end up in big trouble against a guy like Chuvalo who could take his punches and keep applying pressure and bringing punches back. Its not out of the question that Morrison could beat Chuvalo by any means if the fight was to go to the decision it believe it would be close I also could see Morrison stopping Chuvalo on his feet with a series of power punches but its hard for me to picture anyone putting Chuvalo down the guy had a chin of granite and flat out knew how to take a punch.

So you really think a guy that could cut off Patterson, Quarry, and Ali, is going to get outboxed clean by Morrison?

Tommy can catch him on a bad night, where Chuvalo is on his third fight in as many weeks but....at his best, this isn't happening.

Maybe he did "cut off" Ali and Floyd, but it's a moot point because he lost to them as well, that's the thing with Chavulo he's remembered best for losing not winning, that's why in my opinion Morrison would have beat him...

Also Chavulo lost in 1966, to a plodding 5-10 195 guy in Bonavena, something tells me if he lost there, he would get his clock cleaned by a guy in Morrison who was 4 inch taller with a much longer reach, and about 30lbs heavier with a much more damaging punch..

He lost to them because Ali and Patterson are all time greats that can survive a brutal body attack over a long fight, Morrison's stamina was ****.

Oh your one of those "pound" guys nevermind. Bonavena would have took Morrison's head off, dude.

it depends on which Tommy Morrison shows up. If it's the ill-trained search and destroy Morrison, he beats the **** out of Chuvalo for four, gasses, then is outworked leading to a late stoppage loss or loss on points. If the cautious , well traind Morrison shows up, he moves enough to outscore Chuvalo over the distance. I think the attacking Tommy would show up, not fearing Chuvalo's punch.
