It isn't easy making it in the boxing industry. It's not like other sports or entertainment industries. This is a sport where you either need to bring some kind of REAL value or be very well connected with the boxing God fathers.

Maybe it's time to acknowledge all these rappers are in fact just rappers and not great business people.

And Rigondeaux was thinking of going with Roc! Why didn't Ward sign with GBP or Top Rank?

Pretty sure that huge purse bid was well before Gary Shaw "joined". They had already obtained a license in New York and DC back in August.

Jay-Z is not a smart business man... He isn't a good business man. It's easy as **** when you have that kind of money to make money. So many lucrative investment options not available for many less fortunate folks. People thought the same thing about 50 cent lol.

Comparing Roc Nation to 50 Cent's outfit really isn't fair. Roc Nation already has a nice footprint in the sports world and have signed a number of very high profile athletes. Certainly more high profile than anybody in boxing. And they already have Andre Ward. It isn't the biggest star, but its already bigger than anybody 50 Cent's SMS has acquired.

And I wouldn't say 50 Cent is a bad business man at all. He has had plenty of very successful ventures. I don't think he will be successful in boxing without Mayweather, but that doesn't mean he is a bad business man.

Jay Z is a brand. He has people behind him that are good at business. His image is used to sell to the public. Just like his "ownership" of the New Jersey Nets was used in that way. He was on billboards and tv promos and told to sit court side, but when the financials came out he owned .3 percent of one percent. Total value 200k. Less than a home in many states. Boxing is a cagey business he has good people running his name but it's never a guarantee to succeed in such a sport.

He should probably STILL go to them.

Even a rickety outfit like Roc-Nation is at least better than the guys he currently has behind him
