He was not the fighter he previously was, but he wasn't shot.

having just beaten Kessler, his best opponent ever, and therefore the observed peak of his abilities, he must be considered just past his prime since that as less than a year previous.

I don't think he was prime, he had maybe dropped off a little. He had one of his best performances against Lacy 2 years before and had arguably his best win against Kessler the fight before.

Whatever you think he was way, way, way closer to his prime than Hopkins. Calzaghe, still had his speed, his work rate was as good as ever but his power was lessened, probably due to his glass hands.

Calzaghe best Hopkins in between some of his best wins at a weight he had never fought at before in America with Hopkins promotional company picking the Ref, Judges, and venue. On top of that Joe also has had more injuries in his career than Hopkins including brittle hands which removed him from his prime as he couldn't throw power shots consistently. I am American and Calzaghe won BUT is he the greatest fighter career wise than Hopkins no..

But why would they do that when they won't even listen to reason..
This poll is probably driving them crazy and Hopkins may have been over 40 BUT his best wins are north of 40.

He wasn't shot and netheir was Hopkins. Both fighters fought around some of their best wins and while I believe Calzaghe beats Hopkins H2H as was shown Hopkins has had a better career and is the greater fighter period.

Exactly...glass hands. The guy still won even though his hands, the most important things you need in boxing, were ****ed. He WAS shot but proved he is an ATG.
If Usain Bolt kept breaking his legs but still coming back and winning we would be in awe of the guy.

If you look at my post history you would see I consider Hopkins greater than Calzaghe but Calzaghe better H2H because of styles. Before his 40's Hopkins biggest wins were when he was feasting on MUCH SMALLER OPPONENTS but you will ignore this because you live in his **** and can't be objective in any of your posts.

Agreed. BHop gained more and more ring IQ as he got older, and was probably in his mental best at age 43 against Calzaghe, and only slightly past his prime physically. He prolonged his physical prime by eating healthily and keeping fit. BHop took care of the stamina issue by faking an injury for 5 minutes against Calzaghe.

It's easy to argue that BHop's prime was precisely in the Calzaghe fight.
