First, Hopkins cannot fight a boxer. He's good at fighting punchers. In the recent fight he lost, Kovalav was just too big and too good. I remember watching this fight against Calzaghe and thinking to myself that Bernard was just not throwing enough punches. I did not think Calzaghe beat him as much as I was thinking that there was no way you could give a decision to Hopkins because he just simply did not throw enough punches towards the end of the fight.

Have you forgotten Hopkins beating boxers like Wright, De La Hoya, Tarver, Joppy and Holmes. He also forced Calzaghe to abandon his boxing and swarm him as Hopkins would have easily out boxed Calzaghe had he tried to box with him.

Hopkins didn't just feast on punchers and plodders. He just struggled with guys he couldn't draw in to counter like, Jones Jr, Taylor and Dawson who all had significant speed advantages as well as longer reaches.

why does someone have to prove he is an ATG in his very last fight? haven't they done that a bit earlier?

I guess you mean Calzaghe didn't prove he was an atg...

come to think of it, who in hell needs to prove they are an ATG by facing a a 40something? surely you do that with prime good fighters.

Not shot, but clearly past his prime, anyone who thinks Hopkins was anywhere near his prime obviously hasn't followed his career, he'd been declining since around 2004. As for him having some of his best wins later on, yes this is true, but that doesn't automatically mean he was still as good as was in his 30's. By the same logic George Foreman was still in his prime at 45, as that was when he had one of his biggest wins.

    Of course he was.

He was having injections in his hands several times a day. He was so injured, warming up was even out of the question, hence Hopkins and Jones having good first rounds before being schooled.

He didn't have the power he used to have, but calling him "shot" is completely ridiculous in my opinion.

I could have been mistaken, but I believe I even read somewhere that Calzaghe said he retired in his prime..

And I remember reading that he thought the version that beat Kessler would beat younger Joe.

Yes, Calzaghe was very faded when he beat Hopkins. What people look at, is how Calzaghe had Hopkins holding and looking for time out and looking the stronger, so they probably overlook how faded he was.
Calzaghe had terrible hand trouble and was possibly bloated at LHW

If the corrupt ref had started counting, like he should've done when Zaggers dropped with a body shot, I believe Hopkins would've quit like he did against Dawson or like Judah did against Khan.

then you believe a lie, since Hopkins xray was proof he had suffered an injury in the fall.

should fit in with the rest of your beliefs.

though I don't condone Hopkins fakery, it was pretty impressive to see him as an old man iceing calzaghe until Bernard gassed.
