I think it's more that people hate his fans. Most people probably don't care about Calzaghe as a fighter, certainly not now that he's been retired this long.

(que some Calzaghe fan: "you're just butthurt that Joe the ATG beat your 'murican legends and blah blah blah)

But you could say the same thing about all of the fanboys. Pac's fanboys are obnoxious and belligerent, Wlad's fanboys are insecure, Mayweather's fanboys are annoying, Calzaghe's fanboys are insecure and do that weird Team Elite thing.

 

But as long as I've been on this forum, a bunch of people largely dismiss him as a fluke. He was much better than that

Sure, and that's their opinion -- just as you have yours.

But I'd bet that if you didn't have certain people starting threads every week or so (or reviving dead threads) about Calzaghe "being (insert hyperbole)" you really wouldn't see a lot of hate for him. In fact, i doubt you'd see a lot of discussion about him period (since you know, he's been retired for a bunch of years).

What I think is strange is that the same people rehash the same argument 1000000x with no hope of swaying the other side.

 

In all honesty, that is a huge chunk of the issue. If you see my post history, I acknowledge great fighters of all races. But there are clearly some guys here who have an agenda by propagating this notion that black fighters are the best fighters ever, period. It's an absurd claim and simply not the case

 

So did Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Joe Louis, SRR, SRL, Hagler, Hearns, Duran, and fvcking hundreds or even thousands of others, but guess what, folks still talk about them.
