Trying to think of a 'stat' section I can put up.... but cant really think of any outside of the usual 'most ever KO's' 'best winning %' ect, ect.... I remember we used to do the 'Masters and Commanders' section, with all those little stats. Maybe something record based like 'Best to 20, 50, 100' ect... chronicling who has had the best records within the set amount of fights throughout the years. Just some stats to measure the past years and also to see how we stack up this year to years past. :think idk...
Provodnikov vs Matthysse..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWzQKVSHcCM&feature=player_detailpage [yt]iWzQKVSHcCM&[/yt]
I know by the time the fight comes I will be super excited for it (probably my 2nd favorite fight of the year to be honest) but theres a part of me that is also not so pumped for this great, great matchup. I kinda feel that these two, while indeed they have had their shots at the big names and simply came up short, are being steered away from other fighters, certain fighters not wanting to fight them, and other circumstances making some fights not possible (Matthysse could have had Khan, Garcia 2, Malignaggi, Broner, ect) (Ruslan could have had Rios, JMM, Algieri 2, Chaves, Brook) So now, these two devastating, fearless destroyers will alter their careers by locking on eachother.... this fight has all the ingrediants to 'ruin' both guys, regardless of who wins. And for Matthysse, he has had a few battles now. I just would have liked to see both these guys get a crack at the 'Industry' one more time (Broner, JMM, Garcia, Rios, Bradley) before they potentially knock eachother off. But, maybe I just need to appreciate a great matchup for what it is and hope it lives up to half of its potential. If it does it will be one for the ages.
Random question Cotto beat Martinez Martinez beat Pavlik Pavlik beat Taylor Taylor beat Hopkins Hopkins won the tournament who was considered the king in the 90's? Can someone give me a lineal history of the middleweight division? I have a huge gap in my mind from Hagler to Hopkins.... there had to be a ruler in there somewhere no? Where does Monzon fit in there? Before Hagler? As you can see, my knowledge of boxing history from before I became a fan (early 2000's) is bad.
That's another thing I forgot to mention in there, is that its one of those fights I will just hate, hate to see either guy lose Hard for me to even root for a guy. I guess whoever trains harder/wants it more is who I will root for but I know I will be hoping Matthysse is able to pull it off.... not sure why. but both guys are awesome and whoever wins I will be happy for the winner and feel bad for the loser.
* Monzon was world middleweight king from 70-77, save for a spell when the WBC stripped him for failing to meet Rodrigo Valdes. He defeated Valdes in his last two fights to unifiy, and then retire as undisputed champion. So, he's before Hagler (who was rising up the ranks when Monzon announced his retirement) * After Leonard decisioned Hagler in 87, he vacated the championship. Lineage wasn't fully established till '89, when Micheal Nunn KO'd Sumbu Kalambay; since they were considered the two leading middleweights, and it would have been a unification bout had the WBA not stripped Sumbu before the bout. * Nunn then lost to Toney, who would abdicate when he went up to 168lbs. RJJ and G-Man were considered the best after Toney, but both moved up after '94. At that point, Hopkins took over and eventually earned distinction as the number one middleweight.
Ha! My first succesful defence, close but still... coming into my prime now it seems :bbb Result: Rikki Naito MD Masayuki Ito This content is protected
Well done Robney - close bout judging by cards entered. Gutted i didnt make a pick for this bout but i would of been hard pushed to pick naito as i had ito in my head when i looked at this bout. Dodged a bullet checking back as a few had ito to win.
Hey IB... what's your thoughts on my green boy Ronald "The Thrill" Gavril ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoNLeF2DS3U My hopes for him gets deflated fight by fight, is way to raw and flawed in my eyes to be able to climb into top5 SMW. Everybody seems to be praising his power but it looks at best average to me. Can Eddie Mustafa Muhammad make him fight in a more disciplined and complete style. How good of a coach is he.
